When Eliza is blonde...

So I know that there have been many blonde Elizas- but how does Higgins lines work then when they ask Pickering what color her hair and eyes are. I think it goes something like this:

Pickering (on the phone): Her hair? Oh now let me see... sort of a neutral color...

Higgins: Brown!

Pickering: Brown. Her eyes... well....

Higgins: BROWN! BROWN! BROWN!

I know that is not the exact dialogue- but you get the idea. What happens to those lines when the actress is blonde and they don't have her wear a wig. I ask because I am auditioning for Eliza and I was wondering if my blondeness would count against me...
Melindaisy

we changed them to reflect my coloring
"blonde" and "green"....
SeasonsOfLove

Just change them to suit your Eliza.
Ours had red hair:
"Well, it's sort of a neutral non descript colour.."
"She's bloody ginger, Pickering!"
princesswanabe

Oh my gosh! that ginger thing may have been the funniest thing I've ever heard! lol Very Happy

I doubt it. Keep in mind that Julie Andrews, who played Eliza originally, was blonde.
Salome

Julie was not blonde when she played eliza.

Right. I don't remember seeing any pictures/video of her dyed blonde before tSoM.

Yes she was. Check out the pics from that time in her autobiography---she was totally blonde!

She was the original - the line would then be "Blonde! Blonde! Blonde!"

Unless they changed it just for the movie. I haven't read the book of the musical.

If Julie was blonde at the time then she must have been wearing a wig when she played Eliza.

Mademoiselle Lanoire

She is most definitely not a natural blonde.

julie andrews DID wear a darker wig for eliza. but anyway her hair was a light brown colour once she reached adulthood - blonde as a kid which may be why people are basing this on her autobiography, but it got darker as she grew up.

but her eyes are blue, and i still think Higgins shouted out 'brown brown brown brown' in responto the question about her eyes. i always assumed they just figured that the audience couldn't see a stage performer's eye colour.

another thread on this forum has shown, however, that sometimes a more intimate stage means the audience do notice the discrepancy.

read MFL goofs for details...
