What song would you use?

What would you sing for a CATS audition if you couldn't sing a song from CATS? Give an uptempo/pop/rock and a ballad

Me:
Ballad
Anthem-Chess
Never the Luck- Edwin Drood

Uptempo/pop/rock
Opening Ceremony/Arbiter- Chess
Something's Coming- West Side Story
Rumpleteazer4760

Well, it would really depend on what part I was auditioning for. But here's what I would go with based on just showing off my voice.

Ballad - "The Water Is Wide"

Up-tempo - "I Feel Pretty"
Alonza0

It would definatly have to depend on what you were auditioning for. That and what your voice range is. For me though, I'd say the most impressive, if your voice allows for it, would have to be:

Ballad:
Defying Gravity from Wicked

Pop/rock/up-tempo:
Rent from Rent

If I was the judge and you performed either of those well, you would blow me away.

Hmm, when I auditioned I used "Gimme Gimme" from Thoroughly Modern Mille. Not my best choice for that show, although I sing it well. Looking back:

Ballad - I Don't Know How to Love Him (JCS)
Uptempo - Honey Bun (South Pacific)
Swan

A friend of mine, who successfully auditioned a couple of years ago for the German tour, had sung "Maybe this time" from Cabaret.

Swan - Italian Jellicle
crluvalotbear

i think "i don't know how to love him" (as someone said before) is an awesome choice-- another ALW, so pretty, and if you're going for grizz, it's similar in range to memory

Well Im a male, and am partial to Munkustrap, Mungojerrie, and Rum Tum. I can sing their parts pretty well, but I don't know what auditions songs would go well for them.

I honestly have no idea what I would sing. =(

I sing mostly alto, but I can hit higher notes. I guess maybe "Fever" by Peggy Lee... cause its lower, but her range never changes much. Maybe Fiona Apple - Criminal?

As for Uptempo... I'm pretty lost there too.

I sing a bit of everything, but I couldn't pick just two songs.

I would sing for a ballad "My House" from Leonard Bernstein's Peter Pan if I was going to audition for Sillabuband for an up tempo song "If I Were a Bell" from Guys and Dolls if I was going to (and I would) audition for Rumpleteazer. but that's just me lol. Very Happy

I totally almost sang that for my audition, but it wasn't the right song for Sillabub, so I went with a different one.

Rumpleteaze: "If I Were A Bell" is such a good idea! I can't believe I didn't think of using it for my audition...I was in "Guys & Dolls" about a year ago and sang it constantly! Laughing

I would say Heaven Help my Heart from chess is a good ballad one...

And depending on what parts you would want, uptempo can be a lot different.

For example,

If going for Rumple; maybe Gertrude's solo in Seussical. Or something from "Millie".

But, going for Bombul or Demet...something less charactery.

A LOT of songs would do well.

But nothing TOO well known...directors always get tired of hearing the same, popular songs over and over again. Pick something different.

GOOD LUCK!

I think that we might be forgetting that LHSTrombone is a guy. Therefore, he will not be singing female songs or auditioning for female parts. Wink

aaaaahhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahaaaaa!

im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dumb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hahahhahaha. SORRY!

Well then, in that case...Maybe something Jason Robert Brown?

Or some Joseph...?

I feel so stupid. hahaha. I'm not really sure about guys! Laughing

hahaha.

Well GOOD LUCK, still!

Sorry!

I thought he was just asking in general. I didn't realize he was asking for advice...

I'm not sure for a guy. I'll think it over and get back to you. ^_^
LHSTrombone

Lol it was a little of both Razz I was hoping some guys would post their suggestions in the process XD
Misto06

Well... as a guy... to another guy.. I sang "where I want to be" from Chess (UK version, US is lower) at azlmost every auditions I went to. Also the classic "When I fall in love" was another fave of mine. but then again really depends on what part you'll go for.
For tugger I would suggest Bon jovi's "Livin' on a payer"
I think most important is to sing something you feel comfortable with and shows you off best possible
Hope it helped

Personally I would sing 'As If We Never Said Goodbye' from Sunset Boulevard. But again, that's a female song. Wink Good luck with your audition, LSHTrombone!
