What Song Would You Have Played at Your Funeral?

I think I'd do a funny song to cheer people up...maybe Master of the House or have A Little Priest playing as dinner was being served ... Twisted Evil ...and I'll add a side note for someone to announce that everyone is under command to have fun and enjoy themselves as much as possible.

Or if I want to stick with a weepy I'd maybe have A Little Drop of Rain or Bring Him Home, or something along those lines..

So how about the rest of you guys? What you have played at your funeral, and, if it's not too personal or anything, why?

I wan't Fear No More from The Frogs, because it's a beautiful song about death and because it's Will and Steve.

I'd also like Märk Hur Vår Skugga ("Remark How Our Shadow") by Swedish troubadour Bellman sung at my funeral, because it's a heartbreakingly beautiful funeral march.
Salome

"The Party's over now" by Noel Coward.

The thrill has gone, to linger on
Would spoil it anyhow Would spoil it anyhow
Let’s creep away from the day Let's creep away from the day
For the party’s over now For the party's over now

Yes, that song is so sad. I went to a funeral where they played that song and it was beautiful

I would die if any of my friends played that at their funeral. I would not be able to control myself I cry everytime i hear it.

I'd just have to go with Seasons of Love and Finale B from Rent and For Good. Call it too obvious but whatever.

I love the whole score from Little Women. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who does. I don't know why it didn't do better on Broadway.
Guinevere

I really don't know. I have never really given that any thought.

I do know of someone that had "For Good" from "Wicked". Actually, that song really was almost perfect. I never looked at it that way before until then.

I also knew of someone that had the song "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham. I really got a kick out of that!
CurleysMartini

Probably Somewhere from West Side Story. I know it's about starcross'd lovers but it fits so perfectly in so many situations.

Oh dear god that song is horrendous.

I've had to sing it 239482734 times for choir and want to slam my head against a brick wall every time we do.

***sorry for the anger there.

ANYWAY, the following songs should be played at my funeral if I'm passing anytime soon:

1. I will follow you into the dark --> death cab for cutie
2. Such great heights --> iron & wine
3. Just for now --> imogen heap
4. Time --> ben folds
5. Bye bye baby --> ok go
6. One sweet day --> mariah carey
7. nocturne in c# minor --> chopin
8. nocturne in e minor --> chopin
9. and so it goes --> billy joel
10. stairway to heaven --> zeppelin (come on, you know you love it)
11. have i told you lately that i love you --> rod stewart
12. til there was you --> music man
13. comptine d'un autre ete --> yann tiersen
14. blackbird --> the beatles
15. breezin' --> george benson

yeah, thats a long list. Smile

Some Things Are Meant To Be-Little Women
For Good-Wicked
metaphor17

1. I Will Follow You Into The Dark (Death Cab for Cutie)
2. Somewhere (West Side Story)
3. Sing Me To Heaven (beautiful choral SATB piece)
4. Here Comes The Sun (The Beatles)
5. Yankee Bayonet/I Will Be Home Then (The Decemberists)
6. Seasons Of Love (Rent)
7. The Song Of Purple Summer (Spring Awakening)

and most importantly

6. The Lord Bless You And Keep You (SATB)
Glissando

-Less Is More, Those Words Are Not Enough, For the Moments I Feel Faint- Reliant K
-You'll Never Walk Alone- Carousel
-What I Did For Love- A Chorus Line
-Don't Cry For Me, Argentina- Evita
-By My Side- Godspell
-I Know Where I Been, You Can't Stop the Beat- Hairspray
-Time and Music- A New Brain
-Make Them Hear You- Ragtime

And finally...Why We Tell the Story- Once On This Island.

I don't my funeral to be a mourning for my death, nor a celebration of my life. I want it, rather, to inspire those there to carry on my dream and my feelings on life. And hence...the aforementioned songs.
EponineMNFF

Hmm.... I would say either the finale from Les Mis (starting with "do you here the people sing;" I think people would just be confused if it started with "alone I wait in the shadows...") or Bring Him Home.

Though if my friends were in charge of it, I know they would pick A Little Fall of Rain for me, which would be fine as long as it wasn't a horrific cast recording. I would haunt my friends forever if Kaho Shimada was playing during my funeral.

If I can be totally proud of myself, and have lived my life the way I want to by the day I die, "You Raise Me Up" and "Because You Loved Me" will be the perfect songs.
f4m0u5

song

i want going on up to the spirit in the sky
Kerry_ROCKS!

death song thingy

'For Good'
'Don't Stop Me Now'
'Into The West'
'No One But You'

more i can't remember.......
wicked_dreamer

I think I'd like "No one but you" from we will rock you or "Who wants to live forever" from it aswell. Or maybe "Not while I'm around" from Sweeney Todd to...It doesn't have much to do with death but it is a beautiful song.

Ooooh or failing that I would love "For Good" from wicked as well.....Smile
ConverseSneaker

Eh, probably I Believe from Spring Awakening, No One is Alone(Into the Woods and What I Did for Love from A Chorus Line.
Gwen

...this is hard!

Giants in the Sky--Into the Woods
Seasons of Love A and B--Rent
Try to Remember--The Fantasticks
In the Arms of the Angel--Sarah McLachlan
Into the West from Lord of the Rings

and I don't know where I'd put them, but I'd want Memory A and B in there somewhere...the FULL versions, with Jemima's solo in both. None of the versions labeled as a top love song, which makes no sense to me. Give me the line of "sunlight through the trees in summer!" rawr! (no pun intended.)

I'd also want No One Is Alone in the mix somewhere...
*BroadwayLights*

I think I would try to include these songs at my funeral:

For Good and Defying Gravity- Wicked

Larger than Life and My Favorite Year- My Favorite Year
(I just love those songs lol)

Never Gone- The Backstreet Boys (lol)

To Where You Are- Josh Groban

Skyborne Music (one of my choir songs this year)

Somewhere Out There- Linda Rondstat and James Ingraham
sephyr

Till We Reach That Day from Ragtime....my first musical. That song means so much to me, I would get so emotional every time we sang it on stage
Xack

I'd want something so upbeat and unexpected that people would laugh before they realized what was happening.
That being said I'm not entirely sure what.
I also want to have a huge smile on my face and thumbs up in my coffin.
Monsieur D'Arque

My friend told me, many years ago, "When I die, I want to make sure that you come to my funeral and play a recording of the theme from 'Roly Poly Olie,' just so no one gets too goddamn serious."

I'm holding him to his word.
jax1491

"The Song of Purple Summer" (Spring Awakening)

"In Remembrance" (A beautiful choral piece I sang at All-State chorus)

That's all I can think of off of the top of my head, but I'm sure there are more.

OMG I love that song it is so good when we sang it I felt like crying everytime I sang "Oh God my God why hast thou forsaken me." Each person that was in my choir was asked to think of someone they new that died from cancer and sing that song for them! It was so good I would love to hear a recording of that preformance do you have one?
pinkpolish9

well it really depends how old i am when i die.. coz im only 15 now.. but if i died sometime soon, i would want one of my best friends to sing for good...

because we sometimes take joint singing lessons and were learning that song.. and it really makes me cry..

or you know, defying gravity, course..
but master of the house would be freaking hilarous.. Smile

something funny would be awesome
jax1491

jetblack_diva:

It was so intensely emotional for everyone involved. That is the best part of the entire song. Our conductor actually knew the composer personally and told us the story behind the song, but unfortunately I can't remember it exactly. I know it involved someone dying at a very young age though, and it was very depressing.

Here's the recording: http://www.esnips.com/doc/9ffa4d1f-7192-4948-bae9-75a94d5e7cba/09-In-Rememberance
