If the auditions are anything like they were in Chicago....Be prepared to have to sing only 8 bars. They'll say "Give us your best 8 bars" So pick something that you can still sound good with only 8 bars. Perhaps Make Them Hear You from Ragtime...? I'm bad with guys songs haha... |

wow when are these auditions? |

OMG, OMG, OMG.
Don't live in London, so that sucks. So I'm assuming you are all older, experienced actors? What exactly is an audition process like for Broadway shows? And I know you're not supposed to sing a song from the show, so what to you do to show them the character you want through the song? Sorry I'm just aspiring. GOOD LUCK WITH AUDITIONS!!! I'll pray for you. Shannon |

Not everyone here are "older experienced actors".
There's a huge range of people. Make sure you pick something unusual, because there are going to be so many people at that audition you really need to stand out. Good luck. I'll put my thinking hat on for you... |

Lee_the_man, how old are you. If you are younger, I would go with something similar to "Dancing Through Life". If you are older, I would go with a Joel Grey song ("Mr. Cellophane" or something from Cabaret). |

Yeah it said 16 bars for the audition I went to also, but it got cut to 8, but then they had me sing stuff from the show which was cool cuz most people didn't get to do that. Is this a chorus call or a principle call???? And they are having the dance and singing auditions on the SAME day??! Lord I wonder if they know what they are getting into...haha....The Wicked people I think sometimes forget they are WICKED and about a gazillion people will show up to the auditions... |

hi, Im 20..but i wana sing something quite big and showbuisnessy lol, its an audition for the chorus and yeh the dance auditions are on the same day |

Just remember what all of the chorus stuff sounds like: Loud, strong, boisterous (belty?), so pick any song accordingly. Pick something that, if possible, shows off your wide range or best range in those (probably) 8 bars.
Break a leg! Keep us all posted. |

Yea, I guess I've noticed a huge range of people. I've read of moms and then of course people in their 20s and 30s and of course teens. I'm only 13 myself, but I know what I'm talking about...
On terms of what to sing I guess it all depends on what part you want... If your going for a big part like Fiyero, Wizard, or Dr. Dillamond I would say for each part something that captures there feeling and personality through the show. Possibly for Fiyero a song that Ren or that other guy sings in Footloose, like The Girl Gets Around or I Can't Stand Still. For the Wizard perhaps something on the fatherly or selfish side. Not really sure about Dr. Dillamond though... If your just aiming for ensemble I'd say something that really shows off your range and talent and acting ability as well. Also another Stephan Shwartz song would be good. I don't know this is just based on what I've been taught and on common sense. Also what I personally would like to see as a director. Because I actually am in a student assistand directing posistion right now. |

Don't do anything from Rent...Or anything from Wicked, or Hairspray, or any super popular musical....They'll want to kill you. My adivce: Don't go in aiming for a specific part, go in aiming to impress them. They aren't looking for specific parts at this stage they are looking for people who can sing, once they have the good singers they'll start getting more concerned about acting and all that. So pick 16 bars (That can easily be cut to 8 ) that BEST show off your voice. It doesn't have to match the style of the show, it doesn't have to be Fiyero-ey, nothing like that. Just pick the song that you think is impressive. They are gonna be seeing so many people, and a majority of them are gonna go in there and try to do something that they think will show the auditors they can be Elphaba or Fiyero or what have you, but most of the time it doesn't. The auditors can tell. So just go in and do what you feel is the best you can do and don't worry about matching it up to the show or trying to portray a certain charactor because its not time for that yet. First things first!!! |

AUDITIONS WHEN? WHERE? TELL ME HEHE! |
| javertsw |
I agree, the audition is for ensemble, and the leads are mainly going to be casted through private audition.
I think it would be better to pick a song that shows off everything you can do, or really highlights your strengths rather than pick one with a character in mind. |

I was in Honk two years ago, but don't remember most of "warts and all".
Our frog couldn't really sing, so he sort of spoke-sang it. What are the words to the section you are thinking about singing, maybe the tune will come back to me! (and I can give my opinion on using that song) |
| Lee_the_man |
the section im thinking of using is the up beat section where it goes....''Just Think Whenever you need boosting...one day youll be roosting with a mate...etc'' anyone else got any other ideas? |
| Lee_the_man |
i did the wicked audition, i didnt even get to sing in the end hehe oh well, the dance we had to do was amazing tho it was like 'Contempary Ballet' it was from an instrumental section in 'Dancing Through Life! did anyone else go? |

If you need "Warts and All" it is on the broadway junior website.
www.broadwayjr.com/default_HOME.asp Click on Honk Jr. At the lower part of that page they have a place to sample the whole song. One of them is Warts and All. Click on it and you can hear it. !The World's My Stage! |

do something ridiculous like the end of feel the rain fall from parade. Everyone loves a C5 from a tenor!
Kidding. Although do do something that shows off your range (possibly the end of It's Hard To Speak My Heart from parade, what with that octave jump). Good luck. |
