Does any one know what she's singing, like the lyrics? i don't really care what she's saying in english, but if any one could get the lyrics of what she sings when she enters, that'd be great.

I don't believe that she is actually singing in any language except maybe her own. Baboon speech so to say Wink

The other foreign languages are African(or at least I think they are), that's all I know.

I'm sure she is singing a real language. I think most of the foreign songs are in Zulu.

The lionesses, yes, but Rafiki too?

I'm just wondering because I don't know.

I think it's Swahili

It's mainly Swahili but I know that Rafiki's Mourn is a mix of a few langauges including Zulu.

i dont know the answer to this question. i know the song itself is in swahili, but yeah. i just wanted to respond because i'm so excited. my choir is doing Shadowland in our upcoming concert Choralfest in two weeks. the music in the lion king is gorgeous and i almost peed my pants when i found out we were doing this piece. we dont know who the soloist is going to be, we'll probably find out next week. and i cant wait, i hope i get something. ....anyway, you all definatly really care? haha
sorry i was no help to answering the question.

Swahili and Zulu at times. nothing that Rafiki chants is gibberish baboon sounds. when i get home i will check my German and Dutch CDs because i think one of those had in Rafiki's shadowland chant typed out.

Its interesting to see hoe they standardized what Rafiki chants from around 2000 or 2001, before that, whoever played Rafiki knew what the basic chant was but was free to embelish (espicially if the character was played by someone who actually speaks the language) a good example was the Toronto cast when it first opened. In He Lifes In You, the Toronto Rafiki (the mane escapes me) would chant out a whole long bit in the last verse and it went very well with the song. ITs a shame they didnt make a CD (i cant even find an audio boot of it)

Hi guys, dont know if you are still interested in what she sings, or if this isany help, but I am South African, and I do speak 5 of the 11 official languages, so I will tell you what I know.
Firstly, I really doubt that any Swahili is used in the lion king score, its not one of our official languages, and as Lebo is south african too.. Im not sure that he used any Swahili in the show, as that language is more from upper-africa. But I stand to be corrected.
At that moment, she is telling Nala to go, and she is giving her blessings on her travels. It sounds like Tshwana, and from what I can make out, she is saying 'go, my child', 'you've got it all', 'you are ready to go' but there are some words that are purely just used for sounds... not all of it is a language.. if you know what I mean....? Like for example, on the German and Dutch cast recording, the beginning of 'one by one', begins with sounds made by an african cast member... these actually mean nothing, and are purely for the African sound.
I hope this is of some help, and would love to hear from any other persons interpretation. (if knowledgable of the language, that is)
Take care
