What part?

Hi! I am thinking about auditioning for the music man (it is between this and Oklahoma) I am thirteen year's old with a strong mezzo voice (i can also sing soprano or alto if needed) What would be a good part for me?
I really would be happy with any role!

It totally depends... what exactly do you look like?

Maybe Gracie?

I probably look younger for my age. Im about 5'1 with brownish hair. I was actually thinking of Gracie. What does she do?

Well, she has a few lines, such as:

"Tommy Djilas did it!"

and she is usually one of the Wa-Ton-Yee girls or however you spell it.

Also, in every production I've been in, Gracie has had the opening lines of Wells Fargo Wagon. But apparently this is not consistent in every production, so don't quote me on that.

It's not a difficult role.

Also, depending on your Winthrop and the decisions of your casting directors, you might have a shot at Amaryllis.

Amaryllis has the alto part in "Goodnight, My Someone" and a substantial amount of lines for a child character. She's a rather fun character; I've played her a few times.

One of my friends was Amaryllis at your age and height, with a smaller Winthrop (my brother).

ilovemusicals1018

I had to read 2 monolouges (one as Marian and one as Mrs. Paroo) and sing till there was you. Can't wait to find out what part i got!

OMG! I got the part of EULALIE! I am soooooooooooo excited! I never thought I would get this part in like a million years! I actually thought i was going to get Zaneeta! (haha im ending everything in exclamation points)

Does anyone have any good Eulalie tips?
Broadwaybaby2822

ohh thats awesome! that's a GREAT part...haha I'm Zaneeta right now. lol.

Eulalie is awesome! What a fun part!

But at 13? Is this all children?
ilovemusicals1018

Yeah, it's a school show, combined of both the Middle and High Schools. I was really surprised to get this part because, being on the younger side, i thought the directors would give it to an older High Schooler. But I am also really excited because I have NEVER been able to play a comedic part like this, so this is new. Can't wait to start rehearsals!

I played Mrs. Paroo which I know sounds like a boring part she actually has some pretty good scenes. She's very playful and I loved being able to knit on stage. I had to learn and Irish brogue for it which was the hardest part but I just got the part of Nancy in Oliver! who speaks with a cockney accent so learning the Irish accent actually helped me get the part.

I don't think Mrs. Paroo would be a boring part.

For my audition, we had to do a monolouge of her's to see if we could do the Irish Brogue, and i failed miserably! I think i can do just about every other accent except for that one....lol

Yeah, the role of Eulalie is basically built as a show-stealer, and ours in my production successfully did so just about every single night!
