Actually, you sound like you might be a good Hodel. are you a mezzo?

you could go for Shprintze or Bielke as well, but those are usually very young children... if you look young enough, go for it.

my face looks pretty young compared to the other people auditioning so im pretty sure i can fit the part of the youngest sisters. I am looking at Hodel's script an dit doesnt look that bad. Plus the only characters in it are Golde and Perchik so pronounciation wont be a problem. lol

Wha about Chava? its a lovely part! ( i would say that though Wink !!!)

yeah, Chava is the part I'm going for right now Smile I didn't say it cause she didn't say anything about her dance abilities, or her ability to show emotion... we all know Chava needs that Laughing

but if you think you're up to it, Frosh, by all means go for Chava! Very Happy

I am a soprano 1, but i have been an alto before.

On my dance abilities, i have only been to professional cheer classes, but i am pretty flexible.(I have a friend who has done ballet and she has taught me some of her moves, plus i know all the terminology of dance) I am not going out of Chava anyway becasue this is my first musical and that is a leading role so............

I am pretty sure i am going out for hodel, Bielke or Shprintze though. I will probaly use Hodels script for audition, but on my audition sheet i will put down my other preferances.

Then if all fails, i will just be on publicity or make up crew Very Happy

You know, Hodel is usually considered MORE of a leading role that Chava... but they're both supporting roles.

and who cares if Hodel and Chava are bigger parts?? if you're talented enough you'll get it!

If this is your first musical, I'd suggest you do the chorus or something small for several reasons. For one, In highschools-- and in most theatres for that matter, unless you have done a lot with the director and such, you probably wont get much more than that. Two, If this is your first musical you should get a feel what it's like to be on stage doing this-- some people get character roles, and it ends up being a HUGE nightmare because it was not at all, what they had expected it to be. And Three, Fiddler's Chorus Numbers are awesome... "Tradition", "The Dream Scene", "Sunrise, Sunset." This is my second time to do the production, I played the Inkeeper in High school. And I am playing more of a chorus role this time--And I am having a blast being in the chorus and doing more supporting stuff. Like I sing the "To Life" solo and do the Bottle dance--which is a blast.

I'd try out for the youngest daughters, if you want a role. But, stay back and really learn from the experience of being in smaller parts...to see if this is something you love...

good point. I don't think about stuff like that... I don't even remember my first onstage experiences Laughing
superdave

I dont remember either.

yay for pushy stage parents! Laughing

Mine have supported me, from day one--but they havent really pushed me into anything. They have been to every play I have been in, except for the last one I was in--and they arent going to see "Fiddler"!--They'll be in Hawaii--so I cant blame them. But yes, Yay for Parents that support their children.

Honestly which part you go for should be based on what you enjoy more. Acting or singing. The great thing about the three eldest daughters is that they all get to act and sing.

However, while Chava has the fewest lines she requires the most acting ability. She has a wide range of emotions to go through. She's very strong and is actually the most mature among the older sisters.

Tzeitel is the next one in terms of acting ability, her solo is more character and it's a good part to belt.

Hodel of course has to do the most singing. But she only has one song that is just her singing, so it's not overwhelming. Acting wise she's the easier one to play.

The younger sisters require the least acting ability, but they're good roles for a newbie.

This is a great show. I've done it twice, once as Chava with a community theatre and once as Tzeitel with a professional dinner theatre. Both experiences were great, but very different.

As superdave said you may not even be looked at for a role, just because you haven't done shows with this director before, but if you are confident in your acting and or singing abilities try out for everything you think you are right for, that way they know to think about you for future roles. My high school director picked shows based on how much talent she had at the school. If there were several kids with great abilities she did larger ensemble shows, if not then she did shows with a few leads and a large chorus.

Break a leg at the auditions!

this being ur first one, i wouldnt fret if u dont get a lead and i think u'll be fine with ensemble. musicals, especially this one, are amazing, i've never had a lead, i've been an ensemble member in all the musicals ive done, but u learn a lot in the ensemble, because as an ensemble member, u sing, dance and act...which are good skills to have in musical theatre

I would definatly tell u to go for either Shprintze or Bielke. I played Shprintze in my school's production. It was by no means my first musical, but i had an awesome time not being a lead. Also, in this show there is lots of chorus numbers. The youngest daughters give you the chance to have a few lines along with the chorus numbers. have fun!

On the topic of Parents, the guy playing Tevye in our show keeps telling us girls we're adopted and calling us by numbers (daughter 1, daughter 2 ect,) and Golde keeps kicking his butt for doing it (very amusing Mr. Green ) but they're good people (I'm actually older than Golde, and the same age as Tevye, so it makes an interesting cast)
Francois

So, if the poster of the original note is still reading, I presume the show has come and gone, or almost so, by now (since you posted in February)--what part did you get?
choochoo

Hey what happened with your audition???
