What part did you play in The Sound of Music?

I was wondering what part did you play in The Sound of Music? It could be your current role, or your first play ever, what did you play?

I played Brigitta in the 8th grade
and
Postulant, Party Guest, Festival Contestant 10th grade
what_the_heck013

In fifth grade, I was Kurt, in eighth grade, I played Friedrich (professionally!!), and in ninth grade (two years in a row, I know), I played Rolf. I've done it too many times.
mannfann714

Sister Margaretta. the nice nun. "Maria makes me laugh" one.

Once in sixth grade, now in tenth. same part. It's the role I was born to play apparently.
tmg

2nd clarinet, pit orchestra. Mr. Green
ConverseSneaker

Nun.

Aren't I special!
MademoiselleMusicals

I audtioned for the children BUT there was so much favourtism and I was quite young for Liesal *grrrr* so I didn't get in + I couldn't be a nun as I was about 12/13 Evil or Very Mad
bean_C4U

I know what the whole favoritism thing was like. The director the first time I was in SOM cast Liesal because she was one of her students and she was only a year older than I was so she was 13 or 14 at the time. The girl that played Louisa in the other cast was older than she was and had a better voice.
ConverseSneaker

Our director casted her daughter as Liesel and as the lead in her last show Mad

Was she any good?
Timmy_Wishes he was Quast

i played the part of audience member number 3 you know - the one who whoops loudly at the end of every song featuring someone i knew...and as i knew Rolf, Liesel, Maria and the Captain it was after most numbers! Suprisingly i wasn't asked to leave!
Tom

I have never been in it, but I directed it once.
alexxboyle

i was Liesl and it was so much fun!
LisaKitty

I was a nun and Baroness Elberfeld (one whole line, whee!).

In the same production, I was also the understudy for Mother Abbess, and got to go on in that role for two performances. I've got to say, that high A at the end of "Climb Every Mountain" was fabulous! Very Happy
Sammy_beck

Yeah I got to hit all of those fun high notes at the end too. Except I hit them for Mother Abbess instead of her hitting them so that she could save her voice. It was still a lot of fun and I really got to work on my high range.

Well, she had an amazing voice and hit some incrediblely high notes. And she was one of the 5 people out 40 some I could hear even with all of them wearing mics. But I'm not sure. I didn't really think it was that great, and Pirates of Penzance is kinda hard to follow if you can't hear them singing.
Gavroche Girly

As my signature implies..I'm currently playing Liesl. Other than that, I've just sang as Brigitta in a choir concert LONG ago. Hehe!
bell

in 4th grade i was marta and had a blast!!
jazzygirlsings

I played Maria in two separate productions...

I'm guessing I've played Maria for about a year's worth of my life! LOL!

I would love to do it again, strange as that sounds! LOL!
christea

I"M PLAYING SISTER MARGERETTA.....I IT'S NOT WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR BUT, IM CONTENT

theatrechick1993

i was brigitta when i did it a couple of years ago Laughing
Cody

The Sound of Music was the first play I ever did. It got me started in the theatre department. I was Kurt when my highschool did it, and I was in the fifth grade! So it was quite an accomplishment because about 140 kids auditioned and only four got in, including me and the two younger children and brigitta. The rest were all highschool students. I was quite the cutie back then.
Tiny-Tot

I'm starting rehearsals on Thursday and will be playing Brigitta.
Vaseth

The Mother Abbess / party guest/ Nazi Voice #1
gariele-

I played Gretl (the youngest in the show) and my drama teacher said it was because I'm short. Then she totally contradicted herself when I was cast as Mother Abbess' understudy. She's the oldest/biggest one in the show. I'm still kind of mad about it because my voice is more for Mother Abbess and the girl who played M.A. was a pretty bad singer and it took her about 8 months of practicing to have 3/4 of the power a M.A. should have. Ugh. High schools suck.

I loved playing that role.
Elsa2006

I just played Elsa and loved the experience. I think i've found my 'signature' role! Very Happy
SarahBelle

What part did you play?

I played Louisa at camp between 6/7 grade (I was tall...). It was one of my favorite parts I've done!! So much fun!!
RachaelB

When i did the show, i was Sister Berthe, the bitchy nun hehe!xxx
Moose

The cast list was posted yesterday at school and I have the role of Brigitta!

The cast gets their scripts and everyone watches the movie tomorrow. Smile
Kitness

^ Brigitta is a great part. She's the best kid to play after to Liesl (in my opinion. But then I played Liesl so I may be biased).

If you can, listen to the 1998 Revvival CD amd take notes of Tracy Alison Walsh - she's my favourite Brigitta ever.
Trevor

I played Frederick.

The first time I was in TSOM was my sophomore year in high school; it took that director until my junior year to realize I wasn't terrible, so I was Franz, the butler. Not the worst role in musical theatre, but I'd bet it's somewhere close. The role consists of *enter, deliver single expository line, exit* about six or seven times a night, and in a show as long as this one, it can be a drag.

Some years later, just this last summer in fact, a community theatre director friend of mine calls up and says "OH NOES, WE OPEN IN TWO WEEKS AND I'VE HAD SOMEONE DROP, PLZ FILL IN?!" I think, why not, I could stand to add a Max Detweiller or a Rolf to my resume. "Sure, what's the part?" "Franz."

Let's just say the role didn't get any better with time.
MooreDaltreyLove

I was Brigitta
jonvaljohn

I played Cpt. Von trapp.
Love his songs, but the character is so BLEH!
phantomphan85

Never done this show sadly, but I'd love to play Liesl. Sadly, I think I'm getting too old to play her (I'm nearly 22!)

Charmian Carr was 22 when she played Liesl in the movie.
Mr T

Played Rolf when I was younger and then played The Captain when I was older. Oh well we all age!!!! Laughing
metaphor17

when I was 7 I played Marta. it was my first "real" play... at the local high school Smile

I turned 8 during the production. my favorite line was "I'm Marta, I'm turning 7 on Tuesday and I'd like a pink parasol"... but once I messed it up and said I was turning 8 on Tuesday... because I actually was! Laughing

not like it matters that much.
I Love Lockstock

I've been Marta, Liesl, and Louisa. Louisa was a pro-production.

I was four months shy of being 22 when I got cast as Liesl and Sophie Bould (who's playing her in the new London production) in 24, so take heart! Very Happy
phantomphan85

Cool, maybe I'll get my chance one day then! I always seem to play younger roles anyway.
Helena

I was Maria. It was great fun to act with my "children" and I have stayed in touch with most of them since then.
I really don't like the music, though. I like more of a challenge.
Lena

I was Liesl... Two years ago. It was great fun, especially because we got to go to Disneyland (Paris) to perform the songs there the following September Very Happy !
i'm_gonna_make_it_on_broa

I've never been in it, but I love the movie and I would like to be Lisel when I audition.... Laughing .... if I audition
lovesingin

i really wish i could....if anyone near me ever does it i'm trying out
PhantomPhan

We have a community theatre, called Market House Theatre, where I live and I was Kurt. Which was about 2-3 years ago, I think. Now I am in Beauty and the Beast.
BoundBySound

I would really love to be Liesl someday, but I haven't had the chance to audition yet...
star2ballie

I just got cast as Maria last week in a semi-pro regional here. I'm VERY excited. Be prepared for me to be bugging all of you with questions soon (especially Jazzygirlsings)!! Twisted Evil

Erulastiel

I am excited as I was resently cast as Mother Abbess in my theatre company's production! It is going to be in December...so I am praying that it goes well.
Bookworm

I have already done SoM once. I think I was Maria or Liesl..
The next time I audition I would love to try out for Liesl. She was originally who I wanted to be the first time I did SoM.
MunkuSwarley

I'm the understudy for Rolf, and I get one performance in the role this March.
NoWayToStopIt

I played Sister Margaretta! Maria does make me laugh. Mr. Green
deGREENIFYme

I was casted Brigitta before Very Happy
stagefrightdied

I was Leisl not too long ago in '07. It was the most fun ever! It was actually more like nerve-wracking... 3 weeks before the show my Rolfe got put on bedrest and couldn't do the show!
Then in the middle of opening night one of my dresses split in half up the back! It was aweful!
Brigantine

I was Mother Abbess, in fal '06. The director said he wanted 'the best voice' for the act 1 finale (Climb Ev'ry Mountain)... but I was kind of hoping maybe the "best voice" would get... oh I don't know.. the lead?! who sings during the entire show?!? Wink Maria was 10 years older than me, and he didn't want me to wear any aging makeup... it was just kind of weird.
ME:
stagefrightdied

it's odd that the best voice didn't get the lead, but

*totally forgets what she was going to say so coughs and abruptly changes the subject*

your costume is really good! our nuns didn't get a cool little flappy thing on the front of their habits, they just had to put their hands in their sleeves!lol, but it worked-ish! Very Happy
musicmanfan

i'm currently playing as Admiral von Schreiber.
Melindaisy

This is the EXACT story of my school.
I am my school's director's daughter, and I was Edith in Pirates of Penzance, then Leisl in SOM, and now Belle in BATB. If this girl had an amazing voice and projected better than everyone else, why shouldn't she get the lead?
In my situation, which is probably very different from yours, I am one of the two people in theatre class with any show experience (not counting the school's productions) and the other is a boy. I am also one of the two people that has ever had voice lessons, and the other girl sings in her falcetto 100% of the time, very pretty and controlled but so quiet you can barely hear her. The other 46 people are split with crew, boys that couldn't be any of these parts, middle schoolers that are not allowed to have a lead, several girls who laughingly admit they can't sing, and another girl that is perfectly capable of carrying any show. She was Elsa in SOM, and she is Babette in BATB.
The differences between our schools are probably huge, but at my school I am supported by my theatrical friends and they are the greatest family I could have ever asked for. I wouldn't trade them for anything. It makes the experience so much richer and better... I feel bad for anyone who has to go through a show with everyone giving you negative energy and talking bad about you behind your back. I hope I never have too. What our school has right now is priceless, and I wish that everyone could have it, especially that girl that "wasn't that great."
Salome

wel..E#lsa is the best role in SOM.

and for everyone using the word.. its CAST not CASTED!
jax1491

When I was 6 I was the understudy for Marta and in 7th grade I played Louisa. My first role with lines. Much fun.
metaphor17

When I was younger, I played Marta. I really DID turn 7 on Tuesday, and the whole cast got me a pink parasol with my name on it Smile

Along with a music box that played Edelweiss with "Marta" embroidered on it.

The guy who played the Captain had his birthday during tech week and all the kids got him a big cookie cake with "Best Dad Ever" written on it in icing Smile

I will hear within 3 hours whether or not I got Liesl or Louisa in another production.
