What mistakes have happened in the production you've seen?I was thinking about the first time I saw Cats and I remember that skimble had tripped and fallen...apparantly no one noticed and I was mentally screaming "THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!!!" and then the second time I saw it....Misto's dance wasn't so great...again I was the only one who noticed...so anyway whatelse has happened? =D I like hearing about stuff like this... |

Well, the only production I've seen is the video. And I have an entire page of those mistakes |

Hmmm, the Misto I saw was not that impressive of a dancer either, I kept want to scream at him to lift his back leg during the jumps like my old Armenian teacher did. But his turns were magnificent.
The weirdest was probably that he was wearing the light-up jacket, but unfortunately only one sleeve lit up. |

i wouldnt say bloopers as such, but several shows when tails have fallen off, cossies ripped at seams etc. However i really enjoy Last Matinee pranks (especially during pekes) and Christmas shows, the best memory i had of a christmas show was during the ball victoria had a santa hat on and the girls part (the bit that was cut from the vid, grr!however in the credits of the vid its the bit that credits macavity) they all came forward with batons filled with glitter when they did the move when they balance on one leg with other leg in a 'retire' and swing their arms round in huge circles behind them to fall onto the leg that was up (see, you really have to know the choreography to get what the heck im on about) well the glitter went everywhere! and in the misto dance he had tonnes of the stuff flying off of him it was so pretty! considering i was in the front row i looked like the christmas fairy by the end of the show..... ps enkeli: in the gumbie cat watch Rumple...she doesnt have tap shoes on for half of the dance, just her unitard socks! |

I'm sure I've seen plenty of mistakes over the years, but the one that always sticks out in my mind happened the first or second time I saw the show (on the 4th National Tour). The cast was coming out for curtain calls, coming onstage one at a time like they do. Well, everyone else had already come out and here comes Tumble doing his amazing backflips. In the middle of his last double backflip (or whatever you call it), his wig comes flying off! He somehow managed to catch it in mid-air coming out of his flip. All he could do was stand there in his wig cap laughing and clutching his wig, while the rest of the cast laughed with/at him! Poor Tumble... |

Hm...during the Growltiger number Munkustrap or Tugger lost his hat and he tried to put it back on and then gave it, so it hung around his neck until he left stage. I've seen Jennyanydots almost lose her hat, microphones not turned off as the cast makes their exits, and a high note not hit correctly. Nothing too impressive.

When I saw the tour for the first time back in 2003, the woman playing Demeter messed up one of her lines during "Macavity", but she quickly recovered!

^That reminds me...
I've heard an...*ahem*... "unofficial recording" where the Jellylorum messes up a line during "Gus." She kind of mumbled some stuff until she got to the part she remembered. "Then if someone will give him a toothful of gin, he will teh mnurm menuh mrmmemem... East Lynne!" |

You're talking about the video, right? They all go back and forth between having tap shoes on and not having them on. It's kinda funny. I was just telling some of these stories to a co-worker and we were cracking up My very favorite "screw-up" was with Stephen Bienskie as Tugger. He had a character thing where he would run his hands through his wig--and I don't mean just over the top of it, he would dig his fingers into the wig and give it a little tug. Well one night, Stephen did that a little too hard and his wig came off in his hands. His face was priceless! He stood there holding the wig above his head for a couple seconds with a look of utter shock on his face, and then plopped it back on his head and continued the song. It was great. Another one was in the fight w/ Macavity, where he grabs Demeter's hands and Munk gets her feet, and they pull her back and forth till Alonzo runs up and lifts her above his head. In this case, Lenny didn't quite get his hands under Celina Carvajal quite right and he bobbled her. He ended up carrying her off like a baby instead of in a big lift. They were both cracking up for the rest of the number. In the lift with Victoria and Tumble in the Ball, when Tumble lays Victoria over Skimble, Missy Lay Zimmer SQUEAKED one time, and of course the whole cast cracks up around them. One time the Jenny (can't remember who it was anymore) just didn't sing the line in Bustopher "He's a 25 pounder," and Bustopher just grinned and sang his line, "or I am a bounder" or whatever it is. His face was adorable. This one isn't really a blooper, but I saw the show when there weren't enough male swings to cover the people who were out (I think there was a virus or something going around the cast), so Billy Johnstone was playing both Mungojerrie and Coricopat. He was in the Mungojerrie costume, so Tant didn't have a twin the whole show, but he was with her in several parts doing their choreography. Other times he was with Rumple doing their's. He was all over the place. Very impressive. I also saw a split track on the current tour where either Jenny or Jelly was on for Grizabella, and the other one (either Jenny or Jelly again, whichever one wasn't playing Griz) was playing both Jenny and Jelly. I don't think that made any sense whatsoever. That's all I can really remember right now, other than several times where people messed up choreography or missed an entrance, or just completely broke character for whatever reason. Oh! Again, not a blooper, but at Jacob Brent's last show, in Growltiger's number, Griddlebone (Jean Arbeiter (sp?)) made her entrance past the crew and as she went by him, kissed Jacob smack on the lips. It was really really cute! Ok, I'm done |

In all honesty, I'd feel bad for picking out problems in any production or dwelling on mistakes that have been made...but I've seen and read how the performers will deal with the mistakes and it makes me feel better, because they always seem to laugh it off. I have to admire 'em all for that.
There's only one thing that comes to mind for me right now, and no wonder it should, because it happened right in front of me. The last time I went to see it, I went with a friend named Terri (who I singlehandedly converted to the fandom |

If you saw it when Greg Haney was Mungo, I believe he did that every night. He would do handsprings, and "misjudge" the last one, hence landing on his butt. Then Yamil DeJesus, as Tumble, would come behind him and do a series of perfect handsprings, land them easily, then stick his tongue out at Greg. |

Oh no, not at all how I meant it ^_^; I was scared and feeling bad when skimble tripped but I just wanted to hear about the reactions and all that...I didn't mean it in a rude way. I too admire them for dealing with the mistakes. It's not easy.
lol...thats just darn cute to me...well the show goes on y'know. ...now victoria squeaking must have been funny as heck..but adorable all the same too. Also...I remember hearing about the big smooch Jacob Brent got. He was all "What the hell...oh wait...I have to go to the...thingy...over..there"...I was squealing like crazy when I read aobut it in a site. I also once heard that they were short a girl or something and two male cats had to mate...I thought it was funny as hell because the report said they couldn't stop laughing during the whole thing. Mmmmm hot male yaoi in Cats...j/k I don't like yaoi....it's kinda...meh. |

well, as you all know John Patridge loves to play and tag his belt.
One day he meant it to good and ended up dancing one song long with constantly one hand on his butt holding up the belt to prevent it slipping down to his knees. Two nights later Pouncival kicked Bomba in her butt real hard, accident of course, while she went on dancing without a blinkof her eye Pounce stopped dancing and made that "oh shit!" hand-infront-of-face expression. Priceless. less funny bloopers were falling actors, lights during growltigers change, broken micros, audience scratching off Tuggers makeup when he tries to do his dance thing, non functional props (Mistoffeles jumping can, ripped red cloth), not well timed backstagestaff (Skimbleshanks without the red cloth thing for the trains body), sidewise wiggs, people slipping, Etcetera not being able to get off the Trapez security chain thing, Munkustrap hitting his head during Growltigers stand. Loads of bloopers. I lost trace after all this years and many shows. Wish Keith Wilson were here to tell his blooper greets Aky |

Thank you!! I'll put that one up. When I was finding mistakes I didn't see Rumpelteazer's socks, I watched Bombalurina and hers were tap shoes so I assumed all the others were too. These accidents are so cute!! I can just imagine Pouncival's expression |

Awwwww, I didn't mean to embarrass you! That totally wasn't my intention. The first time I saw him do it I thought it was an accident too, but I saw it again a couple nights later because I had friends in the cast, and realized then that he must do it every show. I also asked Yamil about it after the show, and he said that yes, that bit is staged, and is something that can't really change without notifying the whole cast first because of blocking (i.e. they obviously have to have that diagonal track across the stage clear for the boys to do their thang). The second time I saw it, Greg also came dangerously close to the edge of the stage when he went down on his bum. i'm not even sure he noticed, because he didn't react at all. It also may have just looked bad from my point of view because I was in the mezzanine. |

I've read all those bloopers and its making me laugh lol. I think those actors must hold back from laughing every show. The only time I saw Cats live, in Canada, it was 2 summers ago, so I don't remember seeing any mistakes. I think things went almost perfect, I got lucky. It's rare that no mistakes are noticable. Ohhh wait! During the break when Old Deut is stitting very still on the tire, there was that 4 year old kid coming close to the stage and waving frantically at him. Well Deut misbehaved... and waved back! The kid's happiness was quite priceless!
But the kick in the but from Pouncival must have been funny. That and Tugger's wig coming off. I've always wondered it these wigs could possibly come off the actors' heads. Apparently, they do haha. |

awww Old Deut. was a sweetie for doing that. |

Not really a blooper, but I DID the tour during December a few years ago when there was a flu outbreak in the cast . . . they performed the show minus a Munkustrap and Alonzo.
| enkeli-kitten |
Really? Interesting that they didn't understudy. What did they do about Munku's solos? And the Macavity fight minus Munku and Alonzo isn't really much...lol!

When I saw it NYE, Misto couldn't completely get his beetle suit off from the "Old Gumbie Cat." So when he sang the "The Rum Tum Tugger is a terrible bore," he still had his wings on (cockeyed though, I think the zipper jammed) and the beetle helmet in hand.
He looked suitably upset, crawled through the pipe, and when he came back onstage it was minus the armour. |
||||
| Drumdraper |
I've seen Cats live three times and every time Misto is still in his beetle costume for the Rum Tum Tugger number. Any chance they added this to the show?

not a blooper, but I just had to mention it.
Yesterday there was a small Cast change (Grizabella and Rumple) and Old D gave Griz a yellow rose before bringing her to the magic tire. I've seen numerous shows by now but I never experience something like that we, (thats my boyfriend mungo24601 , teazer/Xingiera an me) were also the only ones who recognized the rose thing and went applauding loudly. Just the 3 of us. Yeah, we got that "you're-so-crazy". more fun And at the end Munku (Jack) and Plato (I think) loaded Griz on their shoulders while Tugger took Teazer on his shoulders and the rest of the Cast took hands and danced around them like kids doing the circle dance. so sweet and while I'm at it, Jack Rebaldi did an awesome, in my opinion BEST EVER, show last night. And thats not because I'm a Munku-nut. greets Aky |

wow...No changes when I went...but I must say McCree O'kelly...*swoons* He was wonderful as Misto. Such a beautiful dancer and his expressions ARGH Don't get me started..I was squealing half the time...I wonder what became of him..I've been wondering for the past years lol.

When I saw the UK tour in 2004, the whole thing had to be stopped during the climax of the whole performance when Grizabella was going up to the Heaviside Layer because the stairs didn't come down properly and Chrissie Hammond nearly fell off!!! Kind of ruined the moment.

They probably had all their understudies on stage already. They probably were doing split tracks and such all over the place. |
||||

probably the best 'short cast' i've ever seen was when the Vannycats got to see "Skimblestrap". It was Tour V and Munk apparently twisted his ankle during warm ups so they didn't have time to get someone else into costume. The swing performing Skimble ended up covering Munk as well.
It was entertaining to say the least watching 'munk' shuffle around like skimble. -saff |

The biggest mistake I've ever seen was when I saw CATS in Dallas, and Old Deuteronomy got his verses mixed up. He created a big pause in the music where no one sang, then started in the middle of a verse during The Addressing of Cats.
He covered so well though and none of the cast baubled, so it looked okay to anyone who hadn't seen the show and thought it was just a dramatic pause. |

When I saw the Tour in Nashville in 2001, Cassandra's microphone didn't work for her solo line in JSJC...
And then when I saw it in Louisville in 2004, Mistoffelees was played by an understudy and he didn't catch the cup with the rainbow ribbon... That's about it, though. Nothing serious. Oh, and that beetle costume thing... which I figure, by this point, is just there for...some reason or another. |

When i saw it in London Jenny's hat came off when she came out of the boot, thats the only blooper i remember from the 2 times i've seen it
| pkitty663 |
wow..I thought I was the only one who would notice stuff like this...well the first time I saw it they had Misto's mic on after he had finished his number and you could hear him panting. I wouldn't blame him...I mean..it takes a lot to do it...I'm proud of him ^w^...but I wonder where he is now..

the flue's going through Basel.
Yesterday I saw the first time a show without Tantomile and without Jellylorum (replaced by Jenny). Tugger was heavy on medication too. Although, all these things were only noticeable to people who knew the show by heart. not really bloopers, but just really noticeable things to people who know. The gaps were partially painful, especially during naming where tano and jelly stand beside each other. And I've never seen a lonelier Corico... although I had my eyes on Jack for most of the time, who was once again beyond smashing. greets Aky |

When I saw the show in Düsseldorf, the Jennyanydots performer fell during her song Akeyla, you remember me of the lonely Tantomile is saw (still in Düsseldorf). It was also a bad period for the cast, and we had no Coricopat, no Alonzo, and during act two no Pouncival (the guy who performed Pounci during act one was on as Misto during act two). And John Partridge was also not on a very good day, he was not always on stage (really weird). But all that was only noticable by people who knew the show. At a performance in London, there was a big sound problem during Skimbleshanks. There was a big noise in the theatre, and we could not hear anything of the song. The was really disturbing, I guess also for the cast (wonder if they could hear something), and when the noise stopped, everyone applauded the cast who had continued the show as if nothing was happening. |

My school did it and I was Mungojerrie. I did a forward roll, and my wig came off. So for that song, I was trying to sing, dance, do acrobatics and keep my wig on. And I couldn't get it fixed because I couldn't get off-stage until Act 1 was over, so yes my wig fell off when I did my aerial in the Jellicle Ball, lol. Also *SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW* When Macavity comes out disguised as Dueteronomy we used the Dueteronomy coat. When he throws it off, we lost track of it, and when Mistofelles does his trick, he looks in and Dueteronomy isn't there. Misto looks in and can't find him, but then he just pops out wearing the shirt and sweat pants he was wearing under the coat, lol. Those were some great times, I don't know if I'll ever do a show like that again. |

I've had a bunch of stuff happen, but none of them are technically bloopers. The first time I saw the US Tour, I went with my face made up as Rumpleteazer. Well, when the actors came down the aisle (I had an aisle seat) and turned around to show their glowing eyes, the one nearest to me just stood there and stared a moment in surprise. Everyone else was moving and she was just standing there forever.
For a reigonal production I went made up as Jemima and I got a very long (as in it lasted most of "Moments of Happiness") stare from one of the guys...I believe it was Mungojerrie, but I'm not sure. The most recent time I saw the Tour, Rumpleteazer (Josephine Rose something) was pouting during "Gus" because she got scolded by Old Deuteronomy. She was sitting in the corner and Mungojerrie (Cesar Abreu) was lying on his stomach next to her, and he looked over and smacked her in the butt like "Hey, quit it already"! It was hysterical. |

I went to see the 25th ann. tour in may and the only mistake I noticed was that Misto fell backwards during his conjuring turn. Thank god Mungo and Rumpel (I think) where right behind him. They caught him, pushed him back up and he kept going.
| Gwen |
Ok, so after Macavity runs off with Old Deuteronomy, Munkustrap runs after him...from where I was, I watched him, and saw all the way back into part of the back stage, and as soon as he's supposedly out of site, Munkustrap stops running and is just walks to the backstage area... and I'm just thinking, "Oh new person to the tour, you play him so well, but I can still see you when you're out of character!"
...Of course, my theater ettiquette later, I truly regretted that all I managed to say was...well, (Me-looks over) "Was he in the cast?" (Cast member signing my program) "He played Munkustrap." "SQUEAL OF JOY!! WHERE'S A PEN?!?"-I actually said "squeal of joy." I didn't squeal with joy, I said it. I never got to tell him that I loved how he played the character... Not because he was Munkustrap, but because I thought he did a wonderful job..... The cast was so nice though... |

Shane Hall (who played Misto a couple of years ago) misspelled his own name for an autograph. My program is stored away in my vault, so I don't remember how he spelled it.

This isn't really a blooper but I thought it was pretty funny.
A couple years ago when the show came to abilene, a friend and I went around back to wait for the actors. We really wanted to meet the lady playing Cassandra because she was absolutely amazing and stood out so much during the show... Well, as the other actors were walking out, we asked them where she was, and they kept saying "Oh, she's coming. She should be out in a sec. =)" We waited, and waited... and waited. And she never came out! proving that she really is mystical. She probably went behind us or something sneaky like that. |
