In the Big Book of Broadway (2nd edition) it's a G sharp.
In All Sondheim Volume 1, it's an A.
They're in different keys, obviously. I don't know which one is the original.

The original score has it at a G#

That's the version I have... I think (lemme go check). I got it from the Sondheim at Carnegie Hall book.
EDIT: Yes, in the key of C major, it's an E. I believe this is also the version used in the 95 revival.
