It's not a production - it's a casting. And this is my cynical, pretending I dont enjoy it when I really do, take on things:
People jump up and down saying "pick me! pick me!" and giving profiles. Then other people fill out a giant list, casting forum members in the roles they think they'll fit... Often just sticking the people they like in the main roles, or copying other people's lists, or putting people in roles they've been typecast as but really dont fit all that well...
Then the votes get tallied up. An official cast list is made. People go "yay I got voted for!". And everyone is happy.
