What does the Jr. Version cut out?

I've heard some people say that the Jr. version of ItW is complete trash, but I was wondering what songs or bits it cuts out. Does it downsize or remove any roles? Songs? Scenes?

Let me know, please!

The whole point of the show is the second act and the Jr. version cuts it?!

If you want to find substance and deep meanings and adult themes in a musical, my first suggestion is to not look into musicals specifically written/arranged for children. ITW and ITWJ are entirely different shows. ITWJ is specifically written for children. Yet everyone still complains about how there's no substance to it. Well guess what. There's no substance to other musicals like Finding Nemo or Wicked, and that's because they're kid/family shows. ITWJ is definitely a kid show, seeing as it's against the law for any adult to perform it. It makes sense that the plot is simple and "fluffy" as some call it... the 10 year-olds that perform it really don't care about 'reading between the lines' and deep meanings.

Hmmm well I would disagree with you that Wicked has no substance, but I see where you are coming form. Jr. Versions are indeed meant to be acted by children, it's just tough when you are one of the children who DOES 'read between the lines' and wants the same amount of substance as the original. That's all!

Yeah I totally see both POV's. But they were created to give young children a good opportunity for the stage. This way, they can try out amazing shows like ITW and then when they get older and if they choose to pursue theatre, they discover the real ITW, and in turn discover all Sondheim's other shows, and so on.

Yeah, I think that as long as the purpose of having these Broadway Jr. shows is to inspire kids to watch other musicals and get involved, then i'm cool with it.
