What do you think? My brothers 17 and he's got his heart set on directing Little Shop Of Horrors. He is a really good actor and has done every thing, tech, backstage and onstage. I don't know whether its a good idea. What do you think?

bad idea. you need to develop directing skills. start small..work as an assistant director..then direct smaller shows and work up to it.

Little shop is a hectic show to do. But I'd prefer a younger director rather than an older director to do it through past expirence that was rather unpleasent. But you need a huge production team. Set builders, Stage Managers. If you're only directing the blocking and letting a music director handle music and a stage manager handle sets you might pull it off. I'd recommend trying something small like Godspell.

your brother is my new friend...i too am 17 and wish to be a director when i grow up...(although i plan to direct film)
i think he should take some directing classes first...if classes are none to be found...ask directors you know or find a book...
i for example asked one of my directors what kind of classes to take in college and he said hed set me up with a woman he knew who directed a bunch of movies for the Lifetime channel...shes gonna tell me what i gotta do to get in the buisness...
point of story: if you want to do something...get advice from someone whos already done it...

IT'D BE kind of a trial-by-fire sichashun, but i say go for it, if anyone'll let him
