Awww, lemme see. Ok the few first are accurately in order, the few last well, they often evolve in my top ten depending on my mood XD

1- Etcetera: (The DVD and London one) Well, that's almost a given. She is too sweet, and even though fans like her, she isn't present in most US productions. Sad thing! She gets all my love ^^

2- Cassandra: Well, she is so elegant, so well mannered, I can't resist her charm. Plus, her make-up is my favourite. Moscow Cassandra is especially gorgeous.

3- Electra: She is not seen enough on the DVD in my opinion. She has an awesome costume design, and I just love how she looked in the London productions.

4- Tumblebrutus: On the DVD, he has such a lovely, manly voice, I literally fell in love with him. He also has one of the best male bodies in my opinion, both in London pics I have seen and on the DVD.

5- Rumpleteazer (AND Mungojerrie): Ex aequo. As a duo they totally rock, but I always seem to prefer female to male characters, so if I had to choose betwen the two, I'd go for Rumple. But depending on which production, some times I'll prefer Mungo. That's why they are equal to me. One can't go without the other ^^

6- Alonzo: I love the costume design! Jason Gardiner made such a clean, well-mannered and gracious Alonzo! Another extremely good body shape, too. I see Alonzo as Cassie's (and potentially Jemima's) mate.

7- Victoria: I love the dancing. Sadly, this cat is underloved, and too hated lol. I especially love her costume when there are gold highlights to it. Depending on the production, though, Victoria can be mroe or less lovable. But her white costume always makes her very noticeable!

8- Coricopat (AND Tantomil)e: Same as for Mungo and Rumple. I can't really pick one without also picking the other. They are a duo, and that's what is special about them. I love their wigs and their colors. In the Japanese production, they look especially lovable!

9- Skimbleshanks: Ok this was a hard choice. Skimble's song is just too awesome, and I love his enthusiasm and the joy he brings in the second act of the musical. He's also sweet in his vest and when he has a british accent, I can't resist him!

10- Jemima and Munkustrap: Ok those two have nothing in common, but I hesitated sooo long betwen the two that I decided to put them both on the 10th spot. Yes I know I am cheating, but still! One is the most lovable and sweetest kitten of all, the other is the strongest and most courageous of all toms. So different yet both so interesting!

Followed VERY closely by:
Demeter, Bombalurina, Griddlebone and Gus (Growtiger), Plato, Rum Tum Tugger, Jennyanydots, Pouncival and Jellylorum. Sorry if I forgot some!

That's is! Wow that was a HARD choice to make O.x In fact, next week if I redid it it would probably be different, too. Plus, if I look at the Russian production, then at the DVD one, then at the London or UK tours, my list would always change a bit. But those are my general highlights!

Heeeeey Mz galinda, don't call us "lame". I luuuuuuuuuve Tugger's disobliging ways and I'd luuuuuuve to have a real cat just like him. (not to mention J. Partridge gorgeousness...hehehehe)

Oo.this is gonna be a hard one, but a lot of this is based off of the people I've seen play the characters.

1. Tantomile and Coricopat-I absolutely adore the twins, their mysticism and costume and movements, I've liked them since I first saw the video
2. Mistoffelees-this is based on the portrayals of Misto by Julius Sermonia and Guy-Paul-Misto can be such a character and it's always fun to watch Misto dance
3. Alonzo-this is mostly for the Bway version, I can't get over the brown and gold and there's nothing like the strong, silent type
4. Demeter-gotta love the random wigging out shouting "Macavity!"
5. Bombalurina-sassy and self-confident and telling RTT what for..what's not to love
6. Munkustrap-I have always loved the silver tabby look and it's such a strong character
7. Etcetera-so cute and adorable with just a bit too much hyperactivity
8. Jellylorum-not the old matron version, but the younger more vibrant yellow Bway/tour version-I just love her little quirks
9. Tumblebrutus-yay for flips!
10. Rum Tum Tugger-pure entertainment to watch

In My Humble Opinion, from this musical theatre performer's/director's perspective:

1. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer----In my opinion, they are two of the most fun roles to play in all of musical theatre. It's part Circus Clowning, Part Cirque Du Soleil, Part letting your inner child run free and unchecked. You cause all the mischief, and you get away with it every time. You are inseperable friends (some would say brothers and sister, others, will say boyfriend and girlfriend), and you can absolutely steal the show. What could be better?

2. Tugger Again, you can be the sexiest guy in the room with the cockiest attitude. The "Abo-wow-wow-it It!" where the queens and kittens squeal with delight and faint at your feet, the audience interaction, the arrogance and playfulness of the character...deliciously fun to play as a guy.

3. Bombalurina Macavity stops the show. You are the female Tugger, the Velma Kelly, the Jessica Rabbit of the show. One of the sexiest and best roles for a triple threat actress in musical theatre. Incredibly fun to play the Jellicle femme fatale.

4. Jennyanydots Beyond Cute and Beyond Fun...The cutest queen with the cutest makeup, costume and character. So much fun to play this role. There's so many different ways to play her...hyper, overly protective and motherly, lazy and sleepy, but you *surprise*spring to life for your dance.... Female Tap Leads are just the Cats meow (pun intended) to play. A tapper's dream.

5. Growltiger A goofy, operatic villian. Great makeup, great costume, and you get to clown and ham it up with your pirate crew and the Lady Griddlebone. There is no such thing as overacting with Growl and Griddle. You have nearly total freedom...awesome for an actor.

6. Skimble Energy, Energy, Energy! You have a dance and a song with a great payoff (building the train & riding the train) and you are beloved by the entire tribe. You can play for days with this character and the way you play off the other Jellicles during the number.

7. Victoria An Iconic Character of the show. You are so innocent looking, yet you can choose be very mysterious and even regal in your character, or be completely innocent and wide-eyed. The epitome of Jellicle grace and beauty.

8. Misto Three Words: Turns in Second.

9. Gus: You can make the audience weep. The only time they will weep more will be during "Memory". Such a great and interesting character, so beloved.

10. Coropicat & Tantomilie: The challenge of being in sync with all your movements, you can even play them creepy. You can choose to be the cats of the Witch, the embodiment of all things dark that people claim to find chilling or creepy about cats. Such cool makeup, set even more apart by the close cropped wigs...it's just a unique and fascinating challenge for a performer, even though they are not "lead" cats per se.

Favorite Characters... No special order because they all have personal appeal when coupled with the performers...

Cassandra - favorite is Summer Strallen - she made "Her Snootiness" into a very interesting... Lady...

Bombalurina - here in the States, Sharon Huneycutt and Chelsea Cicci made near-perfect Scarlet Queens. Both had her character down - a flirt but very strong-willed Queen who likes things on her terms... Video Rosemarie Ford is the Bomba I really like.

Demeter - Barbara (Babz) King is the favorite here. Being a NLT veteran probably helped. She gave me more insight into the skittish gold/black Queen who is haunted by Macavity.

Munkustrap - having a Silver Tabby makes me a bit biased here, but I must say I have always liked Munkus. Michael Gruber started it, and Norman Bowman just added to the Captain's character.

Jellylorum - Rebecca Vere has been my favorite here, although Susan Tanner created the 'older version' of the Nurse Cat. I have enjoyed the variation that performers give this character - from a caring nanny cat to a young caregiver.

The Dark Twins - I do not have a favorite set, and was told of several who made the parts great at NLT. I simply like the mysterious quality of these two. I really like it when the performers really act in sync, and maintain the mystic character.

Victoria - No favorite really. Because she gets the solo dance spots, I just like the sheer beauty and athleticism of the dancer. Phyllida C-S of the video gets a nod from me only because the closeups allow you to see the various changes in her character through the show.

Old Dueteronomy - Ken Page has to be my favorite even though I only saw his video perfromance. I especially like the shaman aspect of the character where he influences things and makes them happen. Ken's voice on the video was impressive - the final note is a high B-flat - one that makes the walls vibrate.

Etcetera (Cettie) - Yes, Jo Bingham made Cettie come alive for me, but I heard of others who made the Ditzy Kitty their favorites too. I see this character as a bouncy, happy kitty who constantly see things anew. You could tell the same joke over and over, and she would still laugh at it.

Again - no particular order. I feel relatively disappointed that the UK Tour dropped Electra and Etcetera from the show, and that the US Tour also cut the Dark Twins...

Wow that is all SO interesting to read all these replies! No two lists are alike, really. And I agree with you Nemi, Electra definately has a personnality that you could write about for a while. Too bad the DVD featured her so little.

The first three are in order, but all after that...aren't.

1. Mungojerrie - I like him partly because he's fun and cheerful and silly, but also because his character seems to go deeper than that. However, no one seems to realize this so he gets trapped in only one side of his personality and feels almost afraid to let his serious side out because it's not what others expect of him.

2. Rumpleteazer - Because she's so cute and happy most of the time, but she, like her brother, has a serious side. However, with Teazer it's not so much a conscious effort to hide her serious side as it is she just doesn't have as many opportunities and/or reasons to let it out. She is more naive than Jerrie.

3. Jemima - She's so beautiful in her innocence and purity. She has a naivete that I think is becoming.

Pouncival - Gotta love cute guys that do acrobatic tricks all over the stage!

Alonzo - I like him because although he ranks beneath Munkustrap, he isn't jealous of his brother and is proud of his role as third in command. And also, as Balurina mentioned, there's nothing like the strong, silent type.

Munkustrap - He's protective and he makes others feel safe. He is also very caring and self-sacrificing, wanting the best for everyone no matter what.

Victoria - She, like Jemima, is very innocent and pure, but she seems a bit more mature and knowledgable of the ways of the world than Jemima does. She sees that Grizabella has done wrong, but she is willing to forgive her, even if it means going against the grain.

Coricopat - He's very a very mentor-like character in my head. He's supportive of Jemima when she uses her mystical powers and I can imagine that he probably teaches her how to use them.

Bombalurina - I like her because she's fierce and not shy in the least. She reminds me of one of my dance teachers.

Plato - Because he seems like a scholarly character to me and I find that cute. I also like his shyness.

Old Deutoronomy - the majesty, the wisdom, the...well, I could go on. and oh, the notes he hits...!
Skimbleshanks - again, a hyper adult. or something. again with the reactions and playing-off too. and I think I've got a thing for the Scottish accent in the video--excuse me, DVD.
