This is the cut and pasted casting notice from backstage west - www.backstage.com - we received today. It is for dancers who sing age 16 by this October, to play jets and sharks in West Side Story on Broadway!
Auditions are in Hollywood May 1. Please pass it along to any dancers able to take a break from school and take a chance on Broadway!


WEST SIDE STORY,' DANCERS

Stuart Howard Associates, Ltd. is casting the new Broadway production of West Side Story, music by Leonard Bernstein; lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Kevin McCollum, James Nederlander, Jr., and Jeffrey Seller, prods.; Arthur Laurents, writer/dir.; Joey McKneely, choreo. (recreating Jerome Robbins'); Patrick Vaccariello, music. dir.; Stuart Howard Assocs., casting. Rehearsals start Oct. 27 in NY. Previews start Dec. 16 at the National Theatre in DC. Previews begin Feb. 13 on Broadway. Broadway opening is Mar. 19.

Seeking—Dancers Who Sing: males and females, Caucasian and Puerto Rican, 16+ by Oct. to play late teens, strong ballet technique, to play Jets and Sharks.

Nonrequired chorus dancer auditions will be held May 1, 9:30 a.m. for male dancers who sing and 1:30 p.m. for female dancers who sing at Debbie Reynolds Studios, 6514 Lankershim Blvd., N. Hollywood. Males wear jazz sneakers and knee pads. Bring sheet music to sing after you dance. Will type out if necessary. Equity Production Contract (approx. $1,509/wk.).
