West End GONE WITH THE WINDPaice and Danesh Are Gone with the Wind Beginning April 5 in LondonSo, Gone With the Wind is all set to open in London tonight with Jill Paice as Scarlett and Darius Danesh as Rhett. Am I the only person to find the casting of Pop Idol contestant-cum-Chicago replacement a little strange? He's so young! At any rate, I'm quite keen to see how this turns out. Are any of the Brits on the board going to have a look? Later days David |

I will be visiting London in late April and we already have tickets!
I'm interested to see how it is for a number of reasons: a) I saw the movie on was only lukewarm on the story, but thought to myself that it would make a great musical b)It's Trevor Nunn c)All the actors (except for Scarlet I think) are British- they better do good American accents, otherwise I will just start to laugh. My mom was born a Southerner and GWTW was a big part of the culture during her childhood, so we'll have to see if she likes it |

I'd really like to see that. I'm nowhere near London though (live in the US) I'm reading the book right now. |

I will be seeing this a bit later on, I refuse to go right now when the running time is over 4 hours - first preview was yesterday (Saturday).
I have grave doubts about most things in this production. They tried to turn this into a musical once and it flopped hugely in the 70's with Coward making a very rude (if just) remark about the show at the time. |

Please, everyone....save your money. This show is so bad people want to see it just to have a good laugh. Music is banal, lyrics embarassing...how can you workshop a 4 hour show then cut 30 minutes and expect it to flow. Although this is the biggest disaster in musical theatre history, I think Americans will go for it out of some nationalistic loyalty.
ps. I think its already been cancelled in New York and L.A. (wise move) |

Gone with the wind"Gone with the Wind" was showing in Coventry during the second world war and the cinema got blitzed. It's a pity Margaret Martin's musical production got the same treatment from the critics because she seems a very likeable person and does a lot of charity work with young homeless people. The extracts played on the BBC were not the kind of thing that would have audiences humming as they left the auditorium. Has anybody seen it? What is the best song? |

I have not seen it yet but I saw the making of documentary and was not impressed. I have heard many bad comments from friends who have seen it and it's already at the half price ticket booth (meaning top price tickets go for half the price) even though it's barely opened... |

GWTWGone With the Wind is now set for an "overhaul". The only thing is that, from reading the article, the producers seem to think the biggest problem is the running time.Later days David |
