Soviet pop singer Alla Pugacheva is offered a role in the future musical Chess to play the wife of a Soviet chess player but she has to refuse the offer because of the political climate in the USSR.

And wasn't ALW asked to do the music for it? I always wonder what would have happened to Chess if ALW wasn't off doing Cats. Then again, Chess just wouldn't be Chess without the cheesy 80's pop music.

Webber would have killed Chess! thank god that hack didnt touch it. and the only Chess album with cheesy orchestrations wast he concept recording.the Broadway recording and subsequent concert versionbs got rid of the cheesy synthisized sound.
