We're Finally doing Oliver!

Well I just found out a couple days ago that a community theatre in my area is doing Oliver! this summer! I really want to go for Nancy, but I'm pretty young. I know I could pull of the role (it's my dream role!) but is it horrible etiquette not to write down your age on the audition form? I have never tried it...What is the youngest Nancy you guys have ever seen? I will be seventeen years old, but I am very mature for my age...Any advice?

hehe, i know exactly what you mean, i once tried to audition for fred in "once upon a mattress" when i was thirteen (needless to say, i didn't get it! Razz) but i just tried to make myself look older, i wore more makeup (but not too much, that just makes you look younger! ha) and a simple-yet-makes-you-stand-out kind of outfit (y'know, that standard audition outfit! haha) and just generally try to act mature. when i was in this show a few years ago, our nancy was around 30 but she was also "in" with the director (ahh, gotta love theater politics!) but the girl who played nancy's friend, bet, was only about thirteen but was chosen because she looked much older and had a fantastic voice, so i think a seventeen-year-old would be possible, especially if there aren't too many other people auditioning for the role. oh and i don't think it would be a good idea not to write your age... it might seem immature, you know? Wink well good luck! i hope you get the part, everyone deserves the opportunity to play their "dream role" at least once in a lifetime! Very Happy hehe

When our community theater did Oliver 5 years ago, our Nancy was mid 20s, our Bet was actually a couple years older, but looked much younger.

It all depends on everyone else. My daughter was Oliver and she was 10, our Dodger was 12, and Fagin was mid or late 30s.

Im 16 and playing nancy. If you look right, sounds right and act right and are the best...you will be fine! good luck!
diva!

nancy is supposed to be about 19 i thought? around that age anyway!

in the script believe her to have mentioned how she "robbed for fagin for half oliver's age and for twelve years since"

in the play oliver says he is 13 i THINK..(lol i only did it a couple of months ago i have such bad memory) ..so that would be 7 years (half of 13) plus 12 years...thus 19.

i think nancy should be youngish, because although she is a mature character, having her be young shows that all of those around fagin have to grow up fast!
