Our school has decided.

I own the DVD, and I gave that a watch, and I'm really interested in Demeter. She seems like fun to me.

I'm a mezzo-belter, and my dancing is 'okay' (not anything 'VICTORIA' material). I'm 5"4, and I seem to end up with the rich snooty characters usually, but 40% of the time I recieve the tragic ones.

Any suggestions?

I think you should go for Demeter, you sound like you fit the requirements for the part pretty well, and even if you don't get the part it will still be a good experience. What is the standard of dancing like within the group/company? Dancing is a very large part of the shopw, as you'll have figured from watching the dvd. Good luck, and let us know how you get on!

Claire - Thank you!! Well, it's our High School, so our dancing is at an intermediate level. Some of us, around 30% of the theater kids take dance lessons, so really, most of us don't have much to worry about! I've gotten leads before, so I really feel no pressure! I just need to work on flexibility... Yeah. That's about it!

But if I were to audition for the CITY musical (if they were doing Cats), yeah I'd be in trouble... because THEY can dance.

Anyways....Demeter is a great role. She is lead material, and she does need to be a good dancer. But she also has to work well with Bombalurina, so they pretty much have to have the same dance ability and thier voices need to sound nice together. It sounds like you have the voice part for her, so I think you'll be fine. But I'd look at other parts too.

Demeter is a great role, I'd go for it definetly. It sounds like you fit the requirements pretty well, and even if you don't get her atleast you tried.

And believe me; I'd rather do another musical besides Cats, if our school is just going to butcher it. Most of us cannot dance for our lives, so I think I'm lucky because I know that i'd NEVER do it on Broadway, considering the heavy dancing. But I don't want to do it if it's just going to suck. Cats is a very enchanting dance musical, and because we have done GREAT musicals in the past that we pull off amazingly, but never a full dance musical.
