Was the music changed for Emmy Rossum? For the movie, I read somewhere (actually, it was Kragey who said this) that the music had been changed so that Emmy could sing it. What parts is this about? I always thought that it was easier to sing along with the movie soundtrack than the cast album... |

I know they did in Think of Me during her little high notes stuff at the very end, they made it a few notes lower for her. I also think in Wishing You were SomeHow here again because it sounds different from the OBc.

I believe they also lowered the title song for her...especially the final note of the cadenza.

Exactly! ...Now I'm feeling totally dissapointed because I thought that I had finally managed it! |

That disapoints me even more. Not only does Emmy not have enough vocal support, but she can't even hit the notes. Why on earth did they cast her?

Partly because Gerard Butler said so. He was in the back of the room without being introduced during her audition and, after she sang, he told Joel that was their Christine. I remember seeing an article or interview that talked about it. I'm not inclined to look for it, though. |

If that's true, it makes me very sad. I quite liked Gerard Butler, in spite of the below par vocals, I thought he understood the character quite well (even with the crappy changes to his story). But if he thought that Emmy was right for Christine... oh dear... |

I've posted this before. Honestly don't know how she got the job with THAT. |

Admittedly, I'm a major ANTI-fan of Emmy Rossum's Christine. I thought she sucked, vocal and acting wise. So now you know my point of view.
But I'm not totally sure the cadenza of the title song was lowered just for her. They cut a verse, apparently because of some copyrights concerning the lyrics - or maybe that was just a coverup-story. Usually there are four verses, making the cadenza end on a high E. Cutting one verse makes it end on an E flat, which is merely half a note down. I'm not convinced this is because she weren't able to sing the high E, and if that was the case it wouldn't be hard to digitally push the E flat up to an E (like rumours sais they've done with some stage Christines). I think this was a directing choice as much as a singing choice. As for the TOM cadenza, it was most definitely changed to illude her having nice high notes. It focus a lot on her lower register before hitting the "amazingly high" C. Going from very low notes to the high C makes it appear higher and more impressing than it is. Which is a bit sad, because the cadenza is the place where you show off the stellar qualities of your voice. And she choose to focus on those muddy, low notes? Eh? Other than that, I don't think the score was changed for her. I do think she sings every note flat and soulless, but that is another discussion... |

You can see that in the piano solo, she wants to start singing again but then realises she has to wait a little while longer. |

No they didn't. They cut one verse - and with that one key change. So that caused the ending of the song being in a lower key than in the stage version. I don't think it has anything to do with the copyrights of the lyrics. I'm guessing they just needed to cut something. Just like they cut the second "Notes" scene in the middle of it, just before Mme Giry starts "Madness!" |

That's pretty sad. I mastered that song when I was 13. |

Hmm. Considering how her mouth is open practically the entire movie (and I don't mean when she's singing), she sure didn't open it much during her screen test.

Hahaha, I guess she isn't acting in that screen test. The open mouth is the key element of her acting, you know.... |

I didn't see the movie, so I don't know much about her except that like nobody likes her.
Is her vibrato always like that? It's really... quivery and fast.... Or is she just nervous? |

PERSONALLY I think the vibrato is toned town in the movie soundtrack - only to make her voice sound very flat and lifeless. |
