Was Philip Seymour Hoffman in Into the Woods?I saw that the steward was played by Philip Hoffman. I went on imdb and found that he had done stagework but since IMDB doesn't list stage credits, it didn't say whether it was the same Philip Hoffman or not.Philip Seymour Hoffman graduated with a BFA from Tisch. |

No, this is an older, different Philip Hoffman. He's originally from Chicago, born in the early 1950's, and most recently in A Catered Affair. |

I trust your information infintely but earlier after I posted this thread I came across this website.
http://www.filmreference.com/film/65/Philip-Seymour-Hoffman.html If you scroll down to specials, it mentions the PBS appearance in Into the Woods as the steward. I'm slightly confused now. |

Kind words, Mastachen. Believe me, though, if you do an IBDB search on the other Philip Hoffman, I will bet my autographed picture of Clark Gable you will find that it is the older Hoffman who was in ITW... only because I saw the original, and I recently saw him in A Catered Affair and recognized him, having wondered what he was up to. We are close to the same age, and I went to college in the Chicago area, so have followed his career with some interest. Not to say that the entry ISN'T as you said, but I am sure it is an error. |

Couldn't get your link to work on my browser for some unknown reason, s o I doublechecked on whether there is more than one PBS video of ITW, and there is only one, the B. Peters/Joaana Gleason version, and that is definitely the older Hoffman, not Philip Seymour. Must be just an understandable mistake on filmreference. |
