Voice Ranges, Character Background

I was asked to do wicked at a college near my house. I usually do productions with college students when they need kids. I was asked to be glinda in act 1, and elphaba in act 2. I am not that familur with the show so I was wondering if someone could give me the vocal ranges for glinda and elphaba, and some quick basic character info.
Baker

Short answer: It's illegal.
theatreisme

you can get rights for the music not the actual muscial though. I know becuase my local theatre did wicked caberet last month
shakalakababy

yes, but putting on an actual production of wicked using the book and everything is illegal. the rights are definitely not out
wicked_boy

The rights are NOT out.

You can only do the songs.

Are you do the illegal version or the legal version? If it's the first one, please leave.

how can you switch characters halfway through the show? its a tad noticeable. plus doing the show at all is illegal... so im confused
PappyCat

I believe she means a concert version.
Angel-of-Music*

but still, if theyre doing a concert which follows the show in any way, like the les mis concert, then would it not give the impresion that glinda turns into the wicked witch of the west.
theatreisme

Yea, it a LEGAL concert version of the show with just the songs. And me and the girl who are switching characters are sharing the same costumes, and we look like we could be sisters. The reason why its like that is she could not sing no good deed cause she was going to be elphaba the whole time so we just are switching characters. Any ways, i just need the vocal ranges of glinda and elphaba, just brief background info, and some backgorund info about wicked.

But a good portion of the information on that site is wrong. Razz
music is my life!!!

but one thing they got right is that G(a)linda is a bubbly popular person and a soprano and that elphie belts....

in the last concert we did at my theatre group we actually had for good and wizard and i and (although most people knew the show already) it worked

The story synopsis is also the best i've seen online. Go to the details page for a detailed look at the story line. This isn't uniformly true on this site, but it is true for this entry. Some of the other entrys on the site show exact vocal ranges for the leading roles.

BTW, if you are interested in the full vocal range for eplhie I have seen it somewhere else on this board, although I cant remember which thread it was in.

Thanks fo the spell check. Embarassed I spent so much time trying to figure out how to put an apostrophe in they're that I overlooked the obvious mistake in brainless.
