Hi everyone

I have just been given the role of Tuptim in a local production of the King and I. I am a little concerned about the vocal range, and would love any tips for reaching those higher notes (I'm not really a soprano!). I can hit them - just - but need more strength.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I think all you need is confidence!

Or perhaps proper breathing techniques, which you can ask your MD to help with since it's hard to explain over the WWW.

Hey I also got the role and its a legit soprano role, i think the highest note is in Lord and Master and its a G above High C.

Where are you doing it?

I'm generally a mezzo but I can also sing alto and high soprano. It's just a matter of breath and personal mind set. You have to breathe low and think that you are above the note. Don't think about how high it actually is, just go higher and higher. A proper 10-20 minute warm up could help and suck down the lemon juice!

I'm in a production of it in Burnie, a small city on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

I've never heard of using lemon juice - do I drink it straight, or what?

My Lord and Master is the one that concerns me the most, but I am working on it (and the others) in my singing lessons.

I know this is way after the original post, and the production is probably long closed by now, but the highest note is in "My Lord and Master." It is, however, the A above high C, and not the G, as was previously mentioned. It's right at "anOther."
