Videos from the Bømlo production

Someone on YouTube's been posting pro-shot video clips of the production of Les Mis from Bømlo, Norway. Looks like they're slowly releasing the regional rights, and there are all sorts of originally-staged, non-replica productions popping up in the next few months. (There have already been two in Norway, Bømlo and Trondheim; there are two more upcoming in Switzerland, one in Germany, and a string of them across the US including Philadelphia, Sacramento, and St Louis.)

Here are some clips from Bømlo. Love the set design!

One Day More
Javert's Suicide
Prologue
Confrontation
I Dreamed a Dream
The Robbery
Who Am I?
Master of the House

If you're not going to watch all of them, I highly recommend Javert's Suicide and One Day More. I think they're the ones that most show off the differences and the innovation in the new set.

And I have to wonder how they did the barricade in this production. I imagine it'd be quite different without a revolving stage--I have a few hunches, but let's wait and see if the poster puts up some more clips. Very Happy
Mademoiselle Lanoire

The person does seem to take requests, so you might as well go ahead and ask if you're interested.
The Very Angry Woman

Very nice. I've only gotten to watch One Day More so far, but it's interesting. The students seem a bit older than they do in most of the Cammack productions.

I'm seeing the production in Sacamento if only for the morbid curiosity of Max Von Essen* -- I mean, how they're going to stage the barricade in the round.

* it is not known if the most boring Jesus in the history of musical theatre will appear in SMC's Les Miz; however, he is one of their golden boys
Jesus

The talent over there, in everything I've seen from Norway, Germany, Austria, that entire area, is vastly superior to the majority of what we have over here, as exemplified in these clips.

I've seen several of these before and was really impressed. It's productions like these that show it can definitely be done and that it can work well involving new design and directing concepts.

Hello

They are nice, but i wouldn't say better than what we have. Don't get me wrong, i liked them.

I thought the set works better for some songs than others. I am not sure i liked "One day more" more than the traditional set. It is hard to judge the atmosphere from sitting in front of the PC, but the vast stage diminshes the intimacy of that song IMO.

I don't find Javert's suicide that inventive i am afraid. The traditional way is more imaginative IMO.

On the other hand, the prologue looks much better.

I am sounding much harsher than i want to. It is really good, and i love the fact that people are trying different ideas.

I am also very curious about the barricade.

I really like it; very well done. The Confrontation was very effective in haveing Fantine between the two constantly, and Valjean's voice is brilliant, as is Javert's at that. I'm interested; would the director had to have gotten the rights to this from Cameron Mackintosh?

The Trondheim production used the original, or something very close to the original production design.

It's nice hearing that from you.

^ I still think the Cameron Mackintosh version is the definitive version of the show though. And I don't really condone new design concepts simply because I have little faith that they will outdo the originals. But then again, look at my nit-pickiness when it comes to orchestras - something very few people even worry about. I'm just anal that way, hehe. Personally, I always prefer the version I know and love but I can also enjoy non-replica productions.

I know, I'm exactly the same.

I have watch "the Robbery" video before, it is interesting. The broadway stageing, sets, will always have a special place in my heart, but I am open to looking at different ideas.
Lazarus (Adam G)

The videos are awesome over all.

And Javert's Suicide is very realistic.
