The other night at the bar I was sitting with some colleges drinking and watching the exotic dancers…. Watching football… okay just drinking.
I was going on and on about CATS and Starlight Express, and they were all thinking about my nasty habit of playing Neopets all day long, even while at work.

So we started talking about a video game incorporating Musicals, even better plays, operas, cirque shows etc…

We were thinking we could design it up like the Sims, and make it like "a create your own show/theater…"
Maybe title it "show maker, or Musical maker, or even Theater Director...(theater director 1 : showtime vegas, theater director 2 : national tour ...and so on)

You could take pre-existing characters and musicals and take them on “tour” and see how well your attendance is in each state, so-on so forth… Or have a function that lets you build a theater and you have a budget and make new shows accordingly.

Shows would fail or succeed due to your CASTING. Meaning that while you oversee your type of stage (traveling or homebound theater) You would also have to CAST your play, title it, pick costumes and wardrobe, and have an opening night…check profits, deal with actor situations and such.

I think it would be fun, especially if there was a pre existing musical option/costume option, and if some rather famous musical writers and performers made “guest appearances” like they do in those football games.

But if it was done, it WOULD HAVE to be done by Musical enthusiasts…unless it become cheesy and really kinda offensive.

That’ll teach me to go out drinking after playing Neopets and blasting CATS all day.

So, what do you guys think? Think you’d like to see that sort of game? Or would you roll your eyes and say “god this had to be invented by drunk circus clowns”.

I was just thinking do Cats with the critters in Catz. I got the DS version for Christmas, believe me when I say it's instant sugar shock. Or Nyan to Wonderful--it's another virtual pet game that was obscure even in Japan, and wasn't released outside of Japan. I know every game dealer in town it seems, so I've scored a lot of imports over the years.

Hmm...do Phantom w/the cast of Capcom's Darkstalkers. Jedah would make a great Phantom, but Felicia'd make an odd Christine...

Or stranger yet--Evita. With Splinter Cell. And Michael Ironside as Che.

However, a full "Sims Theatre" game would be kind of fun. It'd also inject a hard dose of reality into starry-eyed wannabes if it was done right. Screw up? Show closes. Cast wrong, get bad reviews, show closes. And no one makes any money.

I thought about something like this, except with Starlight Express as the main show. As the player you would take Starlight Express to different parts of the world and, depending on the the country you take it too, you would see how the show does. Like if you would take it to Mexico or South Africa and depending on the culture there you would see how the show would do. Plus there would be options to build an established theater that caters to only Starlight Express in the country of your choice or taking it on tour. Then there would be suboptions of renting on the Starlight Express theater you build to other shows during the off season or adding different plays with the STEX cast for variety. Merchandising would be a big part of the game, where you would choose what type of stuff to make from STEX storybooks for kids or new albums. As you became more successful you could open secret cast options or get newer costumes.

But I think a musical theater Sims would be fun. You need to get theater people to help design it though or it wouldn't be good.

If done properly, you can make a great game just about anything. With things like mentioned in this thread. However, I think the target audience isn't big enough that such game will ever be created. I hope I'm wrong . It would (or could, if done properly) be awesome game to play.

Another idea I had for a game was Singstar Musicals. Pretty self-explanatory but I think that would be so much fun!!

Had you said this a few months ago, I would have said it would flop, but with the upcoming TV show "You're the one that I want" I could see it being bought by a decent number of people (Even though I personally dont like the idea of that TV show XD)

I've considered making a CATS in-character game with RPG maker... and right now, it seems like ever a more awesome idea.

But man, RB... your game seems like a fantasy come true.

Ok. Ok. I'm calm. So, yeah, as I was saying, that would be really cool. And I think you could sell a lot of games, especially if the player could direct any show they wanted. I mean, there's tons and tons of musical and theatre lovers out there, especially in high schools, so if you target the game at high schoolers, it could really go places. And I think this would be a welcome sight to pretty much all theatre lovers. There's already a whole bunch of musical related video game stuff. I believe there's a website that offers downloads of Cats characters for your Sims, and I think there's already a Phantom PC game, though that's probably book based. Tons of people make their Catz characters Cats characters, and I know I make all *cough* a few of my Sims into characters from my favorite musicals. So yeah, I think you could really strike gold with this. So get a copyright or a patent or something before someone steals it! You could be a famous game designer! RollerBoy = crazy fan, costume designer, video game inventor, FUTURE WORLD LEADER!!!! teehee
