Video Audition Question

I don't know if anyone's ever done this, but I have to send in a video- taped audition for a summer program and I was wondering how important the setting of my video is. Should I try to film in an area similar to the described atmosphere/setting?

Actually, my friend got cast on a reputable cruise ship solely through a videotaped audition!

What she did was mostly to cut and paste footage from shows she had performed in (which is ideal, I think) and anything dance-wise or otherwise that she wanted to show was taped in a studio/on a stage with a pianist.

If you don't have any footage, I would sing your best song and do it in a nice performance-type space, wearing what you would wear to an audition.

Did they put a length of time that the tape needed to be? If not, really around 4 minutes of tape is all they really need to see.

I've done a video audition before. I just pretended like it was a real audition. I filmed the "audition" in a big choir room. So it was basically just an empty space. The video captured my entire body and stayed in one place the whole time, no zooming. The pianist was not in the picture, just myself. I had a friend press "record" then I did my whole audition from start to finish (which included two monologues and two songs).

So, that's what I did. And it worked because I got accepted into the program!! (Unfortunatly the program subsequently got cancelled and my dreams of going to NY were crushed Evil or Very Mad ...why would NYU do that to me!?!?!! Crying or Very sad )

Anyway, hopefully that helps!

Thank you! Smile I have a little more perspective now as to how to go about this tricky task.
