Ching and Lingin one version there is a Bonnie and in the other a erma. Bonnie and Ermas songs are different. Also there are some added characters in the one with Erma. In the Bonnie version the chineese characters are ching and ling and in the Erma version they are Luke and John.

lets get it straight..
1934..original version
1962..first revival
1987 2nd revival.
the 87 script is closer to the original 1934.
the 1962 version took out 4 songs..added5 others from other Porter shows.
the 1987 took out several of the added songs put back a few of teh originals and added 2 more.
the 87 script is by far the most developed.

we're doing the 62' version...i was wondering why people tend to dislike that script as opposed to the 87' version? what is the main difference that it makes it worse?

well the characters are nbot developed as well in the 1962 version. especially Reno who seems ot serve only to come on and sing and to divert evelyn away from hope.
plus some of cole porter's weaker songs such as heaven hop andl ets step out were added simply to provide dance numbers.

Worth saying, though, that both are good. It's just that the 87 version is meatier.

Man, I'm excited to begin Anything Goes rehearsals soon (1962), but after reading that the 1987 version is more flushed out... It makes me wish we were doing that one instead. A "Friendship" duet would be cooler too than a "Trio". That is all.
