US Tour Casting

How and when do they do it? Do they do auditions in different cities or only in one place?
Smudge

they do their primary auditioning in NYC, but I'm pretty sure they also have them other places as well--like in major performing arts cities. There next one will probably be in February.

They will be auditioning at least one more time, probably at the first of the year or in Feb. I haven't heard any rumors about it closing from the cast or crew, so I don't think that's what that "last chance" means...though I'm not sure what else it could mean.
Drumdraper

That would really stink if they closed Cats down. All we can do is wait to find out what last chancd means.

Ok, so I went to their website and I have another question. They give you an address to send your resume to, but how are you supposed to let them know which show you are auditioning for? Do they just consider you for all of them?

That's what a cover letter is for.

Call me naive, but....what's a cover letter? Embarassed *hides*

A cover letter is a brief one paragraph at least introduction. It is usually sent with/on top of a resume. It tells the reviewer, who you are, what you're about, and basically gives them an idea of what you are like before they review your resume.

My audition for Cats Us tour was held in NYC in november 2002 in the 38th street studio.

at 7 am all the auditioners lined up in the hall, and signed a paper outside the door with their name and gender.

we filed in about 8:30 and were split into groups of 20.

these groups were later split again into managable groups to audition.

we 20 were shown an short intense routine, it was set to a single piano playing Jellicle songs. The auditioners let us practice the routine 4 times, then we lined up and preformed it in groups of 8. 4 in front 4 in back. We auditioned once in front line, and again in back line. there was a single table in front of us with 5 auditioners each with resume's under the seperated head shots of each dancer. they made notes on the resume's directly with red ink.

When they were done we all shuffled back into the main warm up room and waited for everyone to audition. Hours later one lady came in, called some names and left.

She returned later calling out more names, and releasing the rest of us with. "we will call you if you get a call back. Thank you."

I was dissapointed because apparently they didn't audition your voice untill after they watched your dancing. (pout)

Sorry, guess that was a little vague. RB covered it very well though. And it sounds like you went to a dancer call (duh). They usually also hold singer calls where you sing first and then get called back if they want to see you dance.

No, they cast more than Grizabella and Old Deuteronomy from their singing calls. Of course, they have to see the other cats dance first. Their last singer call, a few weeks ago, was for Grizabella and Pouncival. Go figure.

Thanks everyone, that clears it up a lot! Very Happy

Completely off topic, but does anyone else find this layout extremely irritating?
