Urinetown

I know nothing about it. I'm a Baritone, a bit chubby. Character actor.

5'9", Brown hair.

Belt/character singing.

What roles are good for me? What kinds of things should I sing for auditions?

You didn't say how old you were, or what type of production this is, Some good roles for you could be Caldwell B. Caldwell or Officer Barrel. There are also a large number of supporting / chorus roles.

Not sure what audition song to use. What's in your repetorie?

also look at Hot Blades Harry and Officer Barrel they're baritones that still have very good parts. And if you're hot blades harry you get to be completely crazy and have a lot of solos in Snuff that girl (which in my opinion is one of the funnest songs in the show). I guess it all depends on how much competition you have.

I'm 36 btw and look mid 30s and can play any. Am not a leading man type at all but a great character actor.

Hot blades harry but be a good role for you then. he is definitely a character part http://youtube.com/watch?v=7EGGK182GMs. he's the guy soloing in that song

I'm trying out for Urinetown as well soon, but it's a high school production.

I'm 14, about 5'8", and I'm a pretty strong soprano. I can belt mezzo notes, but I'm not anything crazy. Very Happy

Any suggestions? I can do the cutsie Little Sally voice too, but I think that's ruled out because I'm tall.
shakalakababy

well the whole point of little sally is that she's not a little girl. She's supposed to look like an adult (or w/e) dressing up like a little girl so honestly height shouldn't be a problem. I'd say go for little sally, or hope even depending on your range.
MissyTheatreBug

thanks!

Hopefully auditions go well. In that case, I also need a song.. but I think I can find one.

Any ideas for the perfect Pennywise song?

ohmygosh.

auditions we very well, callbacks were amazing, and now.. i am the only freshman in our school's history to have ever gotten a LEAD (like, actual leading lady) in a musical.

I'm Hope!!!
soooo excited!

Anyone remember me posting about this late last year? At the time I had an awesome callback for Horton in Seussical but was crushed and didn't even get cast so I set my sights on Urinetown.

By early this year I was again crushed to realize that auditions and multiple rounds of callbacks had already happened for Urinetown.

Then it happened. Kismet, fate, angels, magic pixie dust....whatever did it.
I was at a friends house playing computer games and alt-tabbed to read email and saw an email from the Urinetown director asking me if I was available to play in the ensemble for Urinetown. I replied of COURSE as I had wanted to try out for HOt Blades Harry based on your all's recommendations.

When she went over my conflicts and found she could work with it, she told me I would be playing Old Man Strong and HOT BLADES HARRY!

Oh My God it has been fantastic.
We just opened this last weekend to sold out crowds.

Snuff that girl kills us every night as our choreography is totally authentic West Side Story type choreography (with none of use save one being actual dancers). It is the hardest most challenging thing I've ever had to do but I am so totally loving it! This is the most challenging and enjoyable musical I've ever done!

Thanks for all the advice and wishes and I wish everyone else here the magic role they want!

Im so obsessed with Urinetown. Like CRAZZZZY obsessed. I've seen it twice in high school productions, and its an INCREDIBLE show.
MissyTheatreBug, CONGRATS! I have ALWAYS wanted to be Hope. Send videos of you as hope, if you get any after the shows done.
Perfect Pennywise song? maybe Legend of Miss Baltimore Crabs from hairspray? its a little overdone, and not perfect.... Wherever he Ain't from Mack and Mabel? My Husband MAkes movies from nine? I shall scream from Oliver, Sensitivity from OUAM, I Guess I'll Miss the Man from Pippin (that would be the softer side of Pennywise i'd say...), Just One Step from songs for a new world, just some suggestions....
