Urinetown performed by kids?is Urinetown an appropriate musical for kids to preform? I'm trying to deicde on this summer's musical. The show would have kindergartners through tenth graders, probably with the younger ones playing some sort of orphan company characters. What do think?

I've seen it done, and I was pleasantly surprised. You'll need a very savvy director and smart kids, though -- kids who really get the wryness of the material but aren't concerned with winking at the audience or hamming it up.

I mean, it wouldn't be inappropriate but I probably wouldn't go for a real, serious musical if I was working with kindergarteners. That's just me though.

I think Urinetown would work with that age group; I could see the younger kids playing kids in the poor ensemble, middle school age kids playing UGC Staff members (as well as members of the poor), and the older ones playing the leads.
Depends, though; I could see it working as long as the cast wasn't huge and there were more older kids than younger. If there was a really large cast with mostly younger kids it probably wouldn't work as well.
