urchin solosDoes anybody know how the solos are split up in the songs sung by the urchins? My theatre company is doing the show next season and I'm trying to figure out if I want to audition for Chrystal, Ronette, or Chiffon.

I am doing this show at the moment
Crystal does the tune and main body of Little Shop opening also the beggining of Downtown (Sid Row)
Ronnette does Finale and solo in dont it go to show you never know (which is not in the film).
I am playing Ronnette and I am a soprano Belter and I am doing all the High stuff in Get it and some improvised stuff.. There is no hard and fast rule to who sings what just depends who has the right voice for which part we have all been swopped around. Ronette is the biggest singing part in the Show but they all have quite a lot to do. Beware if you havent seen the lib or script its is very different to the film version...
But good luck no matter what part you get it is fun

Oh I know it is a lot different from the film, I have the cast recording. Well I have heard that Rnette is supposed to be the leader, which I will probably audition for. But I have a feeling I may be cast as Crystal just because she's considered to be the soprano. Especially cuz at my theatre company I'm known as the one with the big soprano voice.
To be honest though I'll probably be happy with any of those parts, just because LSOH is awesomeness.

If you are known as the "Big Soprano", then you can most definiteley bet on getting cast as Crystal. Crystal should have a big-sounding soprano becuase she opens "Downtown/Skid Row" with a real R&B-esque wailing solo.
Good luck on getting the role- I played Audrey and had the time of my life— but have to admit to being a teensy jealous to be the outsider of the cool girl group; they had sooo much fun! It's my fave show to date; silly but sweet.

Well see that is not nescessarily true I have the belting soprano in my group but they wanted me a s ronette as she has more acting but we have rejigged it and I am doing skid row now instead of our Crystal ... the great thing about this script is that it can be swopped around..
Basically I have been given all the really high belting stuff and I have also been given the difficult bits of harmony to sing as the other girls have not had much experience in Harmony singing

In our production the solos were divided as follows:
Chiffon -- opening number (lead vocals)
Crystal -- opening solo in "Downtown"
Ronnette -- solos in "You Never Know" and closing number
However, we didn't take the traditional assignment of harmonies on the 3-part stuff. I played Ronnette, but was on the high soprano line. Chiffon was on melody, and Crystal sang the alto harmony.
