Um...what?!

I know I rarely hit this board, so if this has already been mentioned, please ignore me, but my friend showed this to me, and I think it's a little ridiculous.

There's a thread on the "Wicked" movie imdb.com forum discussing how A-list actresses [not Broadway performers] should be cast in the movie because "this is a MOVIE, not a PLAY!!!"

Excuse me? The poster goes on to say that he/she doesn't even believe they need to be able to sing well.

When my friend told me about it, I assumed it was a joke/troll, but looking at it... I don't know. People legitimately feel that way about movie musicals, that Broadway performers should be forbidden from being cast?

Shocked

I don't think they'd cast someone like that. They'd get lynched. And quite rightly. lol

Excuse me? I don't mean that in a rude way, I legitimately don't know what you're referring to.

I comprehend what the term means; I was referring to what in my original post makes you think that's what I was exhibiting. I was expressing my surprise, yes, but I don't think I said anything melodramatic or over the top, thank you. In fact, I believe that you telling me to "stop clutching those pearls" is far more melodramatic than me asking if people have heard of others that share the opinion of the poster in the original thread I described.

Yeah, agreed. It was totally uncalled for. Some people think that just because they've been here longer, and have more posts than you, they're entitled to talk down to you. It's so silly. It makes me laugh.

It's IMDB. Being incredulous over something posted at IMDB is like freaking out that a baby pooped in a diaper.

Just say that then. Don't go out of your way to sound snippy. Lex is a sweetheart, she doesn't deserve that.

Some people are relatively new here. What you just said ("being incredulous ... a diaper"), well I did not know that since I'm pretty new. Be tolerant, please, no-one's supposed to know everything in the whole world. You could've just said that in a calm way in the first place.

People are getting upset about what TVAW says?!?!

Why?

Nearly everything that comes out of her mouth is sarcasm... like... it's so blatently clear.

I laughed hysterically at everything she said.
MariekeLovesEnjolras

^ TVAW is being unfriendly and intolerant. Sarcasm or not, that is not clear to me. Wouldn't it be better if we all just were a bit nicer? Smile

So, xxstagekiss, what's your message exactly? I don't really get it :$ Broadway players should or should not star in a Wicked movie?
xxstagekiss

I was saying that I'd never heard somebody say that they would prefer somebody who wasn't Broadway to play the leading role(s) in a musical movie; normally it's us complaining when it's somebody with no legitimate credibility getting cast in a role, and there are people out there that prefer that? I'd honestly never heard that opinion before, so I was just asking if anybody else had heard and/or supported such a belief, because, whether it came from imdb or not, it's still an opinion. Whatevs, sorry if that was unclear, haha.

Btw, thanks for the love, Jordan. <3

Eh, I see it differently. I think it's just smugness, personally. And btw, no one messes with my Lex. That's all I'm saying.
Adie

Well, If they want someone who is completely 'movies'.
Penelope Cruz...she would make a brilliant Elphaba
Judie Dench for Morrible....although our friends over at IMDB may not want her as she is a successful & well known stage actress as well.

Rolling Eyes

P.S TVAW for the win

Salome

my opinion is..who cares one way or the other..'wicked' the musical sucks.
TheWitch

Hahahahaha! I was waiting for Sal to put her two cents in!

But here are the facts: A big movie studio will not cast a broadway actress as a headlining lead in a movie musical who is un-known to the general public. Look at Rent. I think they learned their lesson. They still need to pack those seats. And that's the bottom line.
The Very Angry Woman

I never understood the assumption that just because an actor is successful in one genre means they're inherently untalented in a related one.

What I said had nothing to do with anyone being new at mnet. This would make sense if one was new to the internet in general...

Doesn't mean you can't be a little nicer.
TheWitch

One thing you have to learn early on. On these boards, some people aren't going to baby you. Some people will go out of their way to be nice and others will tell you like it is with no sugar coating. TVAW and Salome have their opinions and they will not fold. And I, for one, respect them for that. And, yes, they can get catty. So what? Whining about it aint ganna do much good, I will tell you that.
