UK Tour?

Does anyone think there will be a UK tour of Wicked soon? It is touring in America isn't it?
Sweeney Hyde

Yes it is touring in America as well as playing in Chicago and New York, of course

It won't tour for a while - as long as tickets are selling well in the west end it will stay there for the time being. I think you're looking at at least a couple of years.

Show such as Fame, Chicago, etc, often have both a West End and UK touring productions. However I think it very unlikely that Wicked will tour the UK, there's only about 7-8 touring theatres that are big enough to take it without significantly down-scaling the show.

If there's a European Tour that might well go to Manchester and Edinburgh, but it seems illogical to mount a UK tour for only a few venues, especially when there's plenty of tickets available in London.

In america they have massive theatres that can accomdate the set.... not many in UK at all that could. They couldn't degrade the set, lose the magic.... just like Starlight and Jerry did

Chicago, Fame etc were all pretty well established and had been in the West End a while before they went out on tour - Wicked has only been there since the end of September!
Have you not been able to see it yet or something?

When you think of the SIZE of America, compared to the size of the UK, it shows why a US tour is far better business than a UK tour. There's far fewer people in the UK, and no-one's really all that far from London, not compared to the US!

Personally I'd like to see it stay in London for a bit longer before the leads get hijacked by former soap stars or mediocre celebrities as happens with most national tours in this country. If you want to look for the talent in a UK tour, look at the chorus - they're the real grafters Wink

Its been the most sucsessfull opening of a new show in the west end ever? alteast thats what I heard!

or one of the best if that!

I feel the show could be on for atleast 3 more years before the idea of a tour is even thought of, let alone how they will do some of the special effects!
Can't see them running across a bridge in the marlow cantabury!
