TV Shows You Like That Probably No One Else Has Heard Of...

Jekyll-great twist on the Jekyll/Hyde story and James Nesbitt was brilliant (I've seen about 3 out of the six episodes-ran into them flipping channels over the weekend)

Slings and Arrows-I've only seen two episodes, again through channel flipping, but I loved what I saw...brilliant show about a Shakespeare festival not unlike Stratford filled with wonderful Canadian talent, and Paul Gross's sexiness XD

Cold Squad-before there was Cold Case there was this wonderful Vancouver based cop drama that was much more character-centred definitely not as formulaic as it's more recent American counterpart (it still has cool flashbacks)

So, are there any good shows you like to watch or have come across that remain woefully unknown and underrated? Let's hear them here (wow...that sounded a tad awkward Confused )
Salome

I know laot of people here have heard of these shows but the general public prolly hasnt

Rex
Darling of the Day
Robert and Elizabeth
Busker Alley
Baker Street
50 Million Frenchmen
Orestes Fasting

Elisabeth comes to mi--oh, you mean TV shows.
Mistress

lol...yes I mean TV shows...I probably should have specified that in the title...my bad XD
Set_Buildin_Dad

Here's a strange one for you that only and engineer could love - Junkyard Wars.
Mistress

I loved watching Junkyard Wars back in gr.7 and 8....I think I preferred the Brit version to the American one...I used to LOVE the TLC...before they changed to a home renovation/personal makeover network Sad ...I loved watching the Tuesday and Thursday marathons of Secrets of Forensic Science and Medical Mysteries...that's what I used to watch before I discovered CSI in grade 10 XD
lakmé

Life. I don't know if it's coming back to NBC or not...but oh, how I loved it.
wicked_boy

I used to be obsessed with "The Worst Witch" and "Wizadora".
DaddyDiesel

God Ikno I will get shot for this. Dane cooks Tourgasm It was a mini series on HBO that lasted a while. I truly enjoyed it for some reason. Survivorman is another one I watch from time to time. Iuse to watch it takes a thief.
Salome

rare TV shows i loved:

Best of the West
Love,Sidney
Wizards and Warriors
Mistress

I loved Reboot and Beast Wars/Beasties (it was renamed because 'war' was deemed innapropriate for a child's TV show title) whe I was a kid. Beasties was basicalyl a Canadian CGI ripoff of Transformers but with animals in prehistoric earth and a change of names (except for Optimus prime and Megatron who stayed the same) and Reboot...is sorta hard to dezscribe...it was basically a CGI cartoon about a bunch of...people I guess you'd call them who lived in a computer...literally.
LadyOfTheLake

Pirate Master.

It was basically Survivor, on a pirate ship. It was cancelled when there were only 5 people left, but they had the last 5 episodes online.

I LOVE Jeckyll! Same with Reboot. Yay for similar tv tastes.

And I prefer man vs. wild to survivorman.

And MY obscure tv show - that everyone should watch and enjoy the delicious nonsense of - is ninja warrior. Usually on the Spike network, I believe.

Plus I love anime - but that's not too obscure... uncool, but not obscure. Who else is excited that Adult Swim brought back Inuyasha? HECK YEAH!
Theaterfan101

It's Always Sunny in Philedalphia, its on FX.

Premies: Mac, Charlie, and Denis own a bar in Philalphia. Denis's twin sister, Sweet Dee, works at the bar. The get into many antics, often racish, homophoic etc, with out realizing. Charlie is in love with a waitress at a coffee shop that constantly rejects him. Danny Devedo plays Denis and Dee's father (or is he?). It is a hillarious show, and one of those that you really need to know the characters to get the humor.
julycoaron

I'm with you, Salome, on "Best of the West." The late Leonard Frey was hilarious as was Tracey Walter as his sidekick. I also liked "Open All Night" with George Dzundza from about the same era.

I also enjoyed Steven Bochco's "Bay City Blues," about a minor league baseball team with several actors from his "Hill Street Blues."

Brian (another oldtimer)
Robinflamingo

Head Cases, starring Chris O'Donnell and Adam Goldberg.
It lasted two episodes. It was up against the LOST season premiere.

Young Ones, a PBS/BBC comedy.
TheWitch

El Chavo del Ocho

I have all three seasons on DVD. I love this show, it's full of wonderful acting and writing. It's probably one of the funniest shows on TV.
Annie

Slings and Arrows is my favorite show of all-time. I've seen them all and own the first two seasons. Canadian film at its best. Just brilliant!
Mark McKinney, Martha Burns, Paul Gross and Stephen Ouimette....*sigh*
Rachel McAdams in the first season is amazing!

Also Canadian and sadly long-gone, but a huge success in its day...Student Bodies! Does anyone remember?? With Jamie Elman??
My film acting teacher was one of the producers / directors / writers on the show when it was on. I'm trying to convince him to have the series put out on DVD. Would that be great?!
candymancan

Pushing Daisies!!! I absolutely love this show! And I can't wait for it to come back in the Fall!!! I bet everyone hates it just because Kristen Chenoweth is in it and they don't want to be considered fangirllzzzzzz but I love it! And especially the Chenoweth!
sopranodespair

I love Princes Tutu. it's an anime

I loved student bodies! The little animated segments were always my favourite.

And I'm glad someone else knows and loves Reboot.

Hey does anyone know The Adventures of Shirley Holmes? I LOVED that show. It was about a girl who was descendent from Sherlock Homes and solved the real-life mysteries around her-she even had her own Watson (a guy friend named Bo) and Moriarty, the snooty girl at school who hated her-name was Molly Hardy (no coincidence obviously). It mysteriously dissapeared from TV when I was still quite young and it disappointed me.

Oooh I'm sure someone here remembers Popular Mechanics for Kids? C'mon, young, pre-24, pre-Girl Next-door Elisha Cuthbert???
Monsieur D'Arque

Pushing Daisies is a haven for Broadway stars looking to earn a quick buck with guest appearances- watch for Raul Esparza, Swoosie Kurz, and Ellen Greene in guest appearances. Plus- almost every episode has a musical number of some sort.
Kiwi

no one around here seems to comprehend the wonder that is Boston Legal. I love that show, but no one watches it regularly but me, at least around where I live.

Also, Curb Your Enthusiasm is ridiculously hilarious.
Mistress

There is one Brit show I want to see...I've only seen ads and it's on too late for me to watch. Extras...it looks very funny.
Kiwi

Extras is funny. I've only seen one episode, but I liked it quite a lot.
candymancan

Kiwi wrote:

I thought I was a genius cause after being an Extra in a movie I thought it would be funny to make a movie based upon that idea. So we all talked about it and then I see my friend and she says someone beat me to it! Bah!

What channel is this on?
Kiwi

I saw it on HBO.

O/T: are you going to Green Sheets tonight?

Kiwi wrote:

Poo... I have every channel but HBO...

I have no idea what green Sheets is... But I have work tonight any way.
Kiwi

It's the awards ceremony for the musical and main play of the high schools in the district. Brian is up for an award, so I thought you might be going.

Anyway, back to TV shows.
mizzie

YTV was once my life...we're talking Breaker High, Student Bodies, Reboot, and another one I can't remember the name of that was really similar to Student Bodies, that involved the school Radio station or something.

Who else loved Boy Meets World?

But my favorite show will always have to be Freaks and Geeks. Why it was canceled, I'll never know.
Mistress

The radio show you speak of is, I believe, Radio Active which was hilarious...alas YTV is nowadays overun with really bad anime (xcept for their late friday night stuff I've seen) and Nickelodeon cartoons

*sigh* I rememeber when I'd watch YTV day in day out for Sailormoon, Reboot, Beasties, even Beyblade and Yugioh (yeahm I know, I was a little nerd XD).

Oh my GOSH. How could I forget BEASTIES? That was my favorite! Rat Trap was totes the best.

And yes, it was Radio Active. I miss it.
Cake_in_Song

It still is my favourite show. No amount of Doctor Who, Frasier, and Late Night can take away my love of Boy Meets World.

Also, word to the people who love Pushing Daisies. I came for Ellen Greene and stayed for the awesomeness.

Oh, and let me add: Torchwood. I loff Torchwood muchly.

There are a TON of 1776 references in Boy Meets World...throughout the whole series.

I love that show as well.

A question for the fans: Did you cry in the last episode when Feeny says, "I love you all. Class dismissed."? I did. A lot.
bwayobsessed

I still adore Boys Meet World, I'm sad it never comes on anymore. The last episode made me cry uncontrollably. That show just sucked me and made me care for these characters so much.

Also, I love Pushing Daises; I'm going crazy waiting for it to come back.

to the Canadians around my age: (Mizzie, Cake..)

Does System Crash ring any bells?? I had completely forgotten about it until this thread appeared and I got to thinking.
It was kinda SNL-ish for kids...like a Canadian All That. I remember some of the recurring skits.....like a guru chick to gives advice from her locker or something?

TOSH!

Oh man, that scene where they were on the... phone-y thing... and Owen was screaming like, "COME AND WATCH THE DEAD MAN DIE! RAWR!" and Tosh is like, "Owen, STOP it!" And he's all, "WHY SHOULD I? WHY SHOULDN'T I SCREEEAM?" and she goes, "Cos you're breaking my heart!"

Me too! I like Gwen a lot and I like Jack/Ianto, but I actually adored Owen. And liked Tosh a lot. This is why I really must cling to my TARDIS theory. It's a stretch--a REALLY REALLY BIG STRETCH--but so is most of the stuff that's happened on Doctor Who so far... so, maybe?

I also like Rhys a lot. I cried a little when he "died" that one time. Remember? When that old guy stabbed him? That was really Not Good.

(Clearly... I'm a very emotional TV-watcher.)

Nothing wrong with that! Laughing

BTW-I like your TARDIS theory. Knowing the Doctor, it could totally work!

Heather, you are my hero.

Also, Annie: I definitely remember System Crash. It was like a lame knockoff of Radio Active (only with a TV show) which was a lame knockoff of Student Bodies (only with a radio show).

Now all we have is Fries With That. Which, incidentally, has George from Radio Active on it. And Blair from Radio Active (the blonde jock) was one of the football players on Student Bodies.

I liked Sytem Crash too...I especially loved the Loser Report and Bernbaum Helps People

I think I was too young to comprehend The Oddesy...it was really wacked out...and deep with all the emotional strife about the kid's dad committing suicide. I remember that they actually continued the show after the kid woke up...somehow they still had the alternate world of no parents and whatnot.

I :3 PMK too...Charlie was my favourite...and that little animated guy with his dog.

I also loved watching Beatle Borgs on Fox after school...until it was replaced by Goosebumps...the intro scared me shitless Shocked .
wicked_boy

I love Pushins Daises.

It's only been on for a couple episodes in the UK, the last one we saw was the one with the horsey murderer thing, and we found out Olive used to be a Jockey.

All the goodies have been mentioned: Student Bodies, Boy Meets World (LONG LIVE FEENY!), Radio Active, ReBoot, Beasties.

There was another show on TLC that I loved to watch: "Urban Legends Revealed" I think it was called, or some variation. It was neat, they did narrated reenactments of urban legends, and then analyzed them in an attempt to determine whether or not it could, or had actually happened in real life. Lovvvved that show. Was anybody else a Nickelodeon hor? All That, Doug, Hey Arnold, The Wild Thornberrys (Tim Curry!), Figure It Out--I'm actually watching Legends of the Hidden Temple right now.

What was the show about that skinny kid who was secretly an alien? Like, The Adventures of Alan Strange or something?

And 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd about the jerk kid who was turned into a dog. Laughing And Clarissa Explains it All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch... man, I'm a loser.

No, it is not Mythbusters. It did DRAMATIC reenactments of urban legends (i.e the hook on the car door, the dead boyfriend, although they aren't all so ghoulish), followed by interviews and analyses by experts in related fields trying to determine if it could actually happen, or if a similar incident had already occured, or if it is just a myth

I remember it existing, now that you mention it, but not much else.

I remember Stickin' Around!

There was a boy in my grade five class who will never be the same thanks to my incessantly calling him Scradley.

in the early 70s there was a short lived prime time show called SEARCH. The movie of the week pilot was called PROBE

isn't the theme song encroyable?

It had 3 rotating male lead characters - this was something popular in the 70s - to alternate lead characters. Name of the Game did this format, as did Sunday Mystery.

^^this one shows all 3 leading men

I recently found a Yahoo group dedicated to this forgotten show. Mostly techno-geeks, who as teens were fascinated for the "sci" part of the "fi", which, when watched today HAS ALL TOTALLY BEEN REALIZED. Back in the day, carrying a tiny camera and being logged in to a world wide computer bank was considered PREPOSTEROUS!

But my attraction was the Beefcake. oh yeah. I was 11. and the rotating stars were Doug McClure, Tony Franciosa, and the Alpha Male HUGH O'BRIEN. This show often had Hugh (his character name also) hitting the sack with gorgeous model types THAT HE WASN'T MARRIED TO!!!!

That kinda thing just wasn't SHOWN on TV back then!! (unless the fornicator got his/her comeuppance at the denouement). I recall, at prepubescence, being titallated by these playful bedroom frolicks. titallated and embarassed.

Then I discovered rock and roll and kinda quit watching TV altogether. We only had 3 channels and it was all the samey samey.

I DO remember noticing that blond who was always guest starring tho - oh what was his name again?

mmmmmm Hugh as Wyatt Earp

PHWOAR!! this was the mid 50s, kidlets!!!

I loved Captain Planet when I was a kid! We went to Red Robin for dinner a few weeks ago, and several televisions had a marathon on. It was a lovely stroll down memory lane.
