Hello everybody, I've been reading this phorum for quite long time but this is my first post Wink

You may find interesting this whole clip of Czech Rum Tum Tugger:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wWH-w9F-2s

It is NOT from the theatre itself - but from one stupid show, so it looks quite weird with all lights and neons...
Excuse so called "quality" in Youtube. (I was also lazy to optimise the video in some special way... Embarassed )
Pawzxx

Ohh wow! Thanks for posting that! It's very interesting

Bombalurina has a really good voice don't you think!
Pawzxx

milamber_alw, are you from the czech republic? Have you seen the czech cats? What are they like? Does czech cats have a recording?

Lol sorry for bombarding you with questions, I'm just really interested Laughing
Pawzxx

And I forgot to say it in my excitement! Welcome to the forum!
milamber_alw

Pawzxx: Yes, I am from CZ and I have visited our Cats several times Wink
As you can see - Prague Cats were nearly completely different from original version. Very interesting was the stage, as it was like the arena and the people sitting in the first row were in fact directly on the stage. That meant that they were in nearly permanent close contact with cats. It was simply great Smile

Unfortunately Czech Cats were from the marketing point of view big disappointment. They were played for only one season with 167 performances (the last was on 26 June 2005) and then they went bankrupt. It was really pitty, because the cast was very talented - but there were only few well-known people. And it is bad Czech habit that "common" people are visiting musicals mainly according to the number of famous actors, not according to the quality Sad
The problem was also in the production, because they didn't sell any merchandise, not even the soundtrack (which I see as really big mistake Rolling Eyes).

You're right that Bombalurina has great voice - Zuzana Kristofova-Kolarova was really perfect. But I must admit that I was a bit confused by the costumes for the first time, as I knew the original version and I thought that Bomba should be "the red one" - and it was Demeter Very Happy

You can have a look here to see another TV performance - Czech Macavity. Please try to ignore the cars around - it was the show "Car of the year" Smile (Honestly - I don't understand what do have Cats common with cars Rolling Eyes)

Ohh wow! I loved those videos! Thankyou! It's a real shame cats never played for longer because it does seem a really great cast like you said! They seem really energetic!

Plus I think it's really cool how the audience is directly on the stage....that would be soo fun!

They never made a cast recording!?! Thats so ...ughhh! I would have loved to have heard it cos they do sound like a really good cast (I can't get over bombalurina's voice). Mistake? I think so too!

And I just absolutely adore bombalurina and demeter...so cool!

Anyway thankyou for all the information and brilliant videos I can drool over! Laughing
Pawzxx

And as for the cats and cars.....maybe it's to make the cars seem more sexy lol Smile
milamber_alw

I am really happy that you like those videos.
I'll try to find some more TV appearances on my hdd and put them on Youtube later Wink

And just for the imagination of the sitting "on the stage" (in the side sectors, not in the middle): Smile
Pawzxx

Wow! Talk about up close and personal! Thats soo cool! Why can't our cats be more like that? (but maybe it was like that at the new london..only ever seen the tour) It would be so much more interactive.

milamber_alw, do the cats come out into the aisles in the czech production? Just wondering lol.

Anyway that would be great if you could post more videos on youtube...I absolutely adore cats in other languages!

You've totally made my day...*excited squeal*

Thanks for all the great stuff! Very Happy
Pawzxx
Matthew

These are soooo nifty in a creepy cats sort of way!
milamber_alw

Pawzxxx - hehe, when I found enough courage to sit in the first row for the first time, I couldn't sleep for several nights then Laughing

And to your question - yes, the cats came through the isles - in the beginning (and during the show too) they were approaching from upstairs and coming down to the stage. They were also coming from the backstage and from beneath the stage.
Funny thing was when the row behind you was empty - in that case some cats sneaked up behind you and surprised you in the moment when you didn't expect it Smile

And a little bonus at the end - Czech Ad-Dressing of Cats from the talkshow "Prima jizda" on TV Prima. It is performed by opera singer Zdenek Plech:

Pawzxx

Lol! I could imagine it...the show has your full attention then all of a sudden there's a cat at your shoulder...I'm sure there's been a few funny (or scary) moments! Razz

Thanks soo much for all these wonderful videos! Czech cats are brilliant!
milamber_alw

Well, I have uploaded another piece of our Cats Smile This time it is a make-up of Coricopat, in the second part there is a short shot from the Old Gumbie Cat (during the interview with chief masker):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewmZnshfkXI

I must admit that I didn't like this character at all, but now it is better than nothing Rolling Eyes
Pawzxx

Ohh wow! Thankyou

And they play the czech version of jellicle songs! How cool is that? I've always wanted to hear that!
Pawzxx

AND...there's some gumbie cat clips.....ohh your spoiling us for choice! :p
milamber_alw

I'll continue spoiling you, even if it is in wrong topic Wink I simply didn't want to create special topic for each video, so I'm little OT Rolling Eyes

This time I chose a mix of Czech Cats which consists of parts of:
- Journey to the Heaviside Layer,
- Jellicle songs for Jellicle Cats,
- Old Gumbie Cat.

It was shot for TV Nova show "Gogo sou" (and it is not from the Theatre Milenium). Interesting fact is that this video is de facto posthumous. As I mentioned in my earlier posts the last played performance was on 26th June 2005. This was shot at the begining of July 2005 as everybody believed that the producer will get money to pay wages to actors, band, chorus etc. and the show will continue in new season (from 16th September). But the show was officially stopped four days before the beginning.

You may also mention that Bomba, Victoria and Tantomile have wrong wigs - they forgot to take their own, so they had to improvise Smile

Pawzxx

Ohh wow. You don't know how happy you've made me. What a nice suprise to log on and find that link to such a cool vid. Thankyou!...I totally love Jellicle songs in Czech! The choreography is really interesting too! Seeing that has totally made my day! Razz

Plus I absolutely adore jenny's black dress, AND the tap dance...it's very cool! I love "non replica" versions of cats! It's a nice change to see how it's done in other countries!

Just wondering, who is that black and white cat in the back during jellicle songs? Is it Alonzo?

And as for Victoria and her wig, I think she looks snazzy in it!

Erm...was I dreaming when I saw the man presenting it at the start take a wig off too? lol Razz

Thanks again for this great vid! It's totally brilliant *squeal* Laughing V.happy!
Pawzxx

All the czech cast seem to be extreamly talented singers....they sound great too! It's such a shame it closed and they never made a cast recording....grrr....lol
milamber_alw

Wink

There is funny story about the tap dance - it is said that the choreographer trained the actors with a whip in his hand - until they did it properly Very Happy I think that he did a good job too.

I must admit that you got me Laughing Maybe it should be better to describe them on a bit weird photo:

Standing cats from the left: Mungojerrie, Electra, Mistoffelees, Demeter, Jenny, Bomba, now the problem - in Czech version he was Archibaldus, so I suppose that it could be Asparagus in orig., and the last one is Tantomile.
Sitting cats from the left: Rumpleteazer, Victoria, Cassandra, Jemima and Pouncival.
So you can find your mysterious cat Smile (But Alonso/Alfonso is definitely not here.)

You're right - he had a wig and glasses from the previous sketch Wink
Pawzxx

Ohh man....I really ought to get glasses.... d'oh!

The black and white cat I was talking about wasn't black and white after all! It was Pouncival! Urrghh lol. Clears that one up hehe.

d'oh! Razz

Omg! Such a slave driver! lol...yeah it worked alright!

I really like electra in yellow....Smile
Pawzxx

Rumpleteazer has the most brilliant name ever in czech. Tingl-Tangl! Laughing

Smile Smile First I was scared of Czech names for the cats, but later I have realised that it was a great idea and that Michael Prostejovsky (who had experience for example with translation of Czech Jesus Christ Superstar) had translated them very well.

Well... so... there is time for my last video addition Rolling Eyes It is the documentary from the opening night. There are interviews with creators and actors and also shots from the theatre. Unfortunately the actors have early version of their make-up, which is not as good as it was in later months.

I had to split it into two parts, because it was larger than 10 minutes:

Part 1

Part 2

Enjoy and apologize the bigger size Wink
