Tuptim's Vocal Quality

Hi, everyone!

My question is this: What type of singer is best-suited for the role of Tuptim? Is a classically-trained soprano what they are looking for in this character? Would a musical theatre ("pop"ish) soprano (a la Kim from "Miss Saigon" be an alternative also as long as she had a sweet, pure sound?

Thanks!

Tuptim's vocal quality

Tuptim is a soprano and the notes are quite high (I think she goes up to an A-sharp above the staff or something like that). You don't need to have an operatic voice but it's definitely not "pop" or "belty". She is a romantic ingenue type..kind of like Maria in "West Side Story" so she should have a sweetness in her voice, and a solid upper range.
