Troika 2009/2010 tour review.

So, CATS just previewed at my school and I have been working crew for it during the day but not on show call. Here is my quick review of the show.

Overall I enjoyed the show... I found it fun and very cat like... There was a lot more hissing, back arching, and cat interaction with each other than I remember, which was good.

Highlights:
Felix as munkustrap. Felix was Munkustrap's swing for the night, he had also played the part the night before but wasn't part of the original spacing during the week. Being thrown into it like that really made him stand out more, in my mind.

Ryan Bailey was GREAT as Bustopher Jones, Gus and growltiger. He brought a different character to ALL of them, something that needs to be done. His old man voice was wonderful and his singing as Growltiger took my breath away (Just don't steal his bike, that makes him mad...)

Michael Rios as Pouncival was THE CUTEST THING EVER. He is the shortest male on tour, almost shorter than Sillabub and Rumpleteazer. He is the understudy of Mistoffelees and he does an AMAZING toe touch... I really feel this guy should be Mistoffelees for he is tiny!

Jason as tumblebrutus was great with all the acrobatic things he did and John Lee was great as a younger Skimbleshanks.

Anastasia Lange as Grizabella... Beautiful, she gave me goosebumps (and my mom) at the end.... and had people clapping for her before the song was over.

Dislikes...

Demeter... Oh dear... Lisa was such a sweetheart but I felt her Demeter lacked a bit in her vocals... She sounded a little too Idena menzel from Rent... and her wig was horrible... Sad

M and R cartwheel: The poor duo almost fell tonight doing their cartwheel... And apparently they almost did the same the night before. I feel the director should have worked with them a bit more than moving the cats around by inches for spacing but, to each his own.

Rum Tum Tugger; Not a fan of Adam Steiner as tugger at all. I feel his singing is too... Eh... not right... I understand the rocker cat but.. eh... And at the tender moments he still sings obnoxiously..

Mistoffelees: I'm sad to say this because I find Chris to be a great guy, nice sweet guy... But I was not feeling his Mistoffelees. He couldn't do a proper toe touch... Maybe because the only other Mistoffelees i've seen live was McCree O'Kelley (who I thought was GREAT) or because I watched him teach Pouncival his turns and felt Pouncival a better mistoffelees than him.... And I wasn't a fan of the makeup.

Alonzo... He... Didn't sound right at all to me... Not very manly sounding for being one of the bigger cats...

Overall I really enjoyed the show, remembering everything I liked about the show and how much I missed it... I wish I ushered the night before... But oh well...
Heavylove

I am impressed by people who can hear differences in different peoples singing... For me all good singing is... well good singing. Laughing

I dont know if more hissling and cat like movement is part off Cats bible but that was what I liked most in the swedish variants chorography to. You could really feel that every little knod and move make up towards an lasting impression that there were cats on stage, not humans (If you know what I mean) Wink
