As far as I could tell there were no swing characters on stage during the show (most likely because the State is a rather small theater).

I was in seat 101C which is the aisle seat. During Green Eyes I was hissed at by Misto and either Jelly or Jenny (she went by too fast for me to tell in the dark).

Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats- Great vocals, sounded very odd for Jerrie and Teazer to sing the lines that usually belong to Cori and Tanto (the mystical related lines just don't sound right coming from the notorious duo). Misto and Teazer were standing in front of and behind me when part of the cast came out into the audience. Towards the end of the song just before the lead in to Naming (before A man over there) Jerrie and Teazer picked out The Man and kept exchanging glances with Gus and Munku. The entire cast did the line What's a Jellicle Cat? then started to fade into Naming position then came rushing back to glare at The Man and recite the line again.

The Naming of Cats and Invitation to the Jellicle Ball - Very good

The Old Gumbie Cat - Ian was a very good singer, Jelly, Dem and Bomba blended together perfectly...Jelly being played as around the same age as the other queens rather than older. Skimble was an odd addition as the fourth mouse with Silla, Vicky and Teazer as the other mice. The Jerrie and one of the male kittens were pretending to be rock stars with their utensils in the back of the beetle/roach group. The rebel was the other male kitten (I had a hard time telling Pounce and Tumble apart especially when their faces were covered).

Rum Tum Tugger - I was so disappointed when I saw the Dave S. was not going to be on. SAO was a very good Tugger but I had heard such good things about Dave. SAO was rather short (I like Tugger to be one of the taller toms). I was unfortunately on the wrong side to get visited by Tugger... the woman at the opposite end of my row got Tugger in her lap... he did the 'call me' to her at the end of the song.

Grizabella - the shunning of Griz was great, Pounce or Tumble was very believable in trying to reach out but scratch instead. One thing that bothered me during the whole show was Demeter's wig (for some reason she was the only one..besides the short-haired Cassie to not have the cheek pieces on her wig giving her a rather wedge shaped head)

Bustopher Jones - Chris was a great Bustopher and in his other parts as well (my grandmother who was at the show with me didn't even realize that the same actor had played all three parts). He came very close to actually falling off of the hat because his 'catchers' weren't paying attention.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer They made a cute pair and were played as a couple not twins or siblings (Jerrie was much darker, orange and black while Teazer was more like a more striped Etcetera, she was white based with orange, and black stripes), Joanna was a very cute Teazer and the duo were making trouble during the whole show...during several songs they were on the stairs by my seat staring at people in the audience.

Old Deutronomy - It was rather odd for me watching a white man play Old D (I saw Ken Prymus on B-way, watch the video multiple times a year with Ken Page and saw a regional show at the State several years ago with a black man as Old D). Philip was a very good Old D although he seemed a bit thin for the role especially noticeable when being mauled by the kittens.

Jellicle Ball My favorite song in the show, the cast were perfect during the Ball. Skimble (Felix plays him as younger tom about the same age as Jelly) almost seemed like he was Vicky's partner rather than the one giving approval to Plato. The male kittens were goofing around several times during the song, one time it looked like they were playing King of the Hill on the steps to the tire.

Memory Julia was a very good Grizabella and I heard people around me sniffling during both parts of Memory.[/b]

Act II (my computer decided my message was too long to post in one entry)

Intermission - Old D slyly waved to several children that came to the steps to look at him then went back to pretending to sleep

Moments of Happiness - Since the Dark Twins are not included in the Tour Cast, Cassandra and Tumblebrutus gained the parts as the links to Sillabub for Moonlight

Gus - The interaction between Jelly and Gus was very good and did not seem to be any relationship other than friendship (which is how I prefer it). One of the male kittens was sitting on the license plate of the car and 'fell asleep' several times only to be batted across the head by Jerrie or Teazer who were further up on the trunk of the car. Silla spent the time snuggling with Old D and being petted by him.

Growltiger - very funny, Munkus's bird seemed to be falling off of his shirt. Growltiger and Griddlebone were hilarious, during the Un Tempte Notte (sp?) Griddlebond raked her claws into Growltiger on each of his high notes and when he was ignoring her it looked like she gave him the finger but I'm not sure.

Skimbleshanks - Felix started out asleep on the hat and refused to get up at first swatting at those closest to him. As I said earlier he was played as younger than usual which added more energy to his song. Silla was the sneezer instead of Teazer. Pounce and Tumble were the ones causing the 'hilarity and riot'.

Macavity - For some reason Alonzo shadowed Demeter during her solo part....it was rather odd watching a guy dance moves that are clearly intended for a female dancer (I don't remember if Alonzo danced this on B-way when I saw it b/c I was only 11 then, now I'm almost 21...does anyone know if this is always done or if it's just on the Tour). Both women had great voices although I prefer Bomba. The fight was good but the guys really seemed to be holding back...not lifting high or throwing hard. Pounce was cute during the fight...he seemed to be trying to work up the nerve to claw Mac but then Mac turned and glared at him, Pounce crawled away at top speed to cower and hide his head behind Jenny near the oven

Mr. Mistoffelees - Ryan was a very cute Misto, playing him as not quite a kitten but not an adult either. He set off silver streamers instead of flashpots (is this always done on the Tour or just at certain theaters?...the regional I saw at State also did streamers). I wasn't able to count the conjuring turns but there were over 20. Jerrie and Teazer kept pointing at Cassie to be chosen...Teazer wildly waving to get Misto to look at her

Memory 2 - Silla had a very nice voice and her make-up seemed to echo Griz's with the white diamond on both their foreheads. After Vicky, Misto was the next to touch Griz followed by Pounce and the other young adults

Journey to the Heavyside Layer - great sound but nothing out of the ordinary

The Ad-dressing of Cats - Old D had a very powerful voice and reached the highest note well

Bows - Each member took a bow then the cast began singing Mr. Mistoffelees again and one of the male kittens ran into the oven and didn't come back out. Bomba and Tugger did their Trailer.

*Notes* I still prefer the black and white Alonzo to the gold tabby and Demeter paired with Munkus not Lonzo. Munkus had 6 or 7 odd brown fur patches, half on his chest, half on his back....Did anyone else see this with the Tour? or was it maybe an emergency fix (I saw the last show at the State, there was one show Friday night, 2 on Saturday and and earlier show on Sunday). Overall, the cast was great and I wish I could have seen the show more than once (sadly I'm a broke college student and the ticket was part of my X-mas present from last year). I wish I knew other fans in this area because I would have liked to go to the stage door and try to get autographs. After leaving the theater we saw four girls in the window of one of the neighboring shops (a dancewear shop) in leotards, makeup and ear headbands pretending to be mannequins and scaring people by clawing the window as they walked by.

Some notes...

On the cast? Casey Hill is no longer with the tour - her last day was April 23rd. Until the tour ends, Kristin Jantzie will play Cassandra.

On Tumblebrutus, I think the same thing happened - Brandon Tyler was Tumble up in Sacramento as well...

Philip Peterson is a great Old D - Up at Sacramento, he had a little girl at the edge of the stage holding out a "paw". He got up and went to where she was, but apparently, he got a sign that he was not to touch, even though the audience wanted him to... He seems to be great with kids...

On Growltiger, you might say that Jellylorum (Griddlebone) gives him the "finger" - the Italian version maybe... The gesture is more "Hey! Whatza matter with you, eh?!"

On Macavity dance - Alonzo does what is known as the "Shadow Dance." He mirrors Demeter until Bombalurina comes in. You are right about Broadway - one of our other resident experts can help you on this fact.

Misto streamers - This has been the US Tour for quite some time. The UK Tour used flashpots in 2003, but I am not sure about that now. They had about 4 on the floor at the stage edge, and about a dozen "mini-flashpots" on the car grille and battery, and one BIG one on top when Mac overloads the charger. My guess is that the Company feared an accident, and redesigned the "magic" act. On the Conjuring Turns? I always seem to count between 22-26 turns.

Munkustrap - no, this is his look on the US Tour. I saw the perfromances in Sacramento (3 times) and Cerritos (twice) and they have him as the Gray Tabby with some rust and white patches. Why, I never found out. We need a costumer to answer that one.

Thanks Rumble.

On a side note, Stanley Allyn Owen as Tugger made me think of the Heathrow character Presley every time he was on, because he was one of the shortest males in the cast (although he wig gave him a little more height).
