Tracie vs. FrediWhich "Joanne" do you like better? The OBC or the movie?I like Tracie Thoms better. There's just something about her that - to me - says "Joanne" more than Fredi. I just adored her in the movie. From the clips and the OBCR I think I can say that I don't like Fredi that much. I'm not sure what it is, I just don't see her in that role. What about you? |

are you kidding? Fredi was amazing in the role!!
I did enjoy Tracie as Joanne for her take on the character, but she was not "butch" enough for me. I have also thought of Joanne as an extremely butch character. |

Personally I don't think I can compare. I love Tracie Thoms, she's just awesome...and she has an amazing voice too. Plus you can't help loving how she FINALLY got the role she had been wanting for so long.
That being said...I just see Fredi in the role. She IS Joanne, you know? I agree that she would have been too old to reprise her role in the movie, but still -- she fit's Joanne's character so well, I think. |

First off I must say I envy Tracie's voice, but with that being said Fredi seems like she was made to be Joanne.

On any given day - I don't care which Joanne I'd hear. I like both interpretations. I used to like Tracie better, but now I like them both equally. However Tracie's Take Me or Leave Me beats Fredi's any day. That's the only flaw in my opinion. That's the only reason why I voted Tracie over Fredi. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered voting lol.

Trac's Joanne was much more like how i see Joanne. Fredi is wonderful, and she is seen as the core of the character because she's OC but to me i can feel all of Tracie's thoughts in her voice and singing.

I love both of them. I think Fredi just really embodies Joanne but I think Tracie just really brought this new take on the character that worked really well. Plus both can really kick the crap outta their songs.

Going on with my stint before, I like the new one. Better looking, better singer (in my opinion) and she just works with the cast so amazingly. I'm sure the movie would have turned out much different with fredi in it, but I liked this version just fine.

The role of Joanne was portrayed so much differently, how can you possibly compare?
I never saw theOBC live...let that be known...but....I didn't see much chemistry between Idina and Fredi and I gotta say from the clips I have seen...I don't care for Fredi's voice at all. Tracie Thom's portrayal of Joanne was much more believable (chemistry wise) and that girl can SANG. She didn't seem particular "femme" to me either...just "professional" and kind of "conservative" PEace! |

I love Tracy, but Fredi is also fantastic!

I think Joanne is a double personality, on one end she's a strict, perfectionist. But on the other she's more of a party freak |

i dont care what y'all say. Fredi Walker is the BEST Joanne ever and she shoulda been in the movie. No one can sing it or act it like her.
Here's one of my fave clips from youtube of her and Idina from RENT 10: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKAUBD_pXEI |

I never got to see Fredi in the show, but she seems allright from videos. I definitely have to admit I prefer Traci's JoAnne. I would love to see her do it onstage!

Agreed. I think they should have Rosario and Tracie come for a stunt-cast on Broadway!!! That would be cool...

That would be neat. | ||

I wouldnt wanna see ol' lazy-eye on stage, but Tracie would be fun. She still cant beat Fredi for my taste.

I've only seen on clip of Fredi and that was Take Me or Leave Me and I have to say I love Tracie. I'm not going to say who is better because I saw Fredi only once but Tracie just seems more like a hard working lawyer that still loves to party and have fun and admires those artists. And Fredi's voice is too deep for me |
