It really depends on how young or old you look I think. I am going to audition to be Lun Tha soon and I am 18 which is about how old I think he is supposed to be. Tuptim should look about how old Lun Tha is so it's not really awkward  But it also depends on how talented you are and who else auditions. You should go for it if you feel you can handle it and see what the directors think! Also, it depends on how old your Lun Tha is, obviously. So, see what happens. It'll be fun no matter what.

i agree with that advice, also it depends on the type of production. if it is a school production, and the other kids are all around your age, then go for it. if its a community production and you have people that are a few years older than you going for the part, then it might not be as easy. the best advice, which was previously mentioned, would be to try to talk to the director, they know what they are looking for, and you might be it, so ask some questions and stay positive. tuptim is a great role, whether you play it now or a few years from now. I saw an interesting ameture production a couple of years ago. It was historicaly acurate in the fact that the youngest wives looked younger than the eldest children

Congratulations. I personally think that 12 is too young for Tuptim, she should be 15-18. However marriages in Asian countries do happen at a young age so I suppose it's fine if you look at it from that perspective.
