to audition or not to auditionmy drama teacvher approached me a few days ago and asked me to audition for a competition with the bell shakespeare company in melbourne. I have to perform a shakespearian monologue that has to go for 2-5 mins and i have to consider characterisation, voice, movement and script comprehension. If i win, i get to spend a week workshop with them and particiapte in a summer performance next year.
but here's the catch...I can't win. If only 14 and the rules say you have to be 16 to win. I can still audition for experience, but i can't be short listed or anything.
I don't know wether to do it or just wait a couple of years till im 16 and audition then when i can actually win it.
so...to audition or not to audition, that is the question (ha ha ha)

It's always a good experience to audition and the Shakespearian monologue will do you good. I say do it.

oh yeah, i should probably mention that ive never done a shakespeare monologue before so any tips or suggestions would be nice.
should age or experience be taken into account with this? i mean, ppl say that with audition songs, but does the same apply here. Its just that other than juliet from romeo and juliet, there arent really any 14 year old shakespeare roles...

Maybe not explicitly, but there's still stuff that would be appropriate without going way into the Lady Macbeths and stuff. You still could do anything belonging to Ophelia, Hermia, Julia, etc.

Ophelia is fun, I always played her for "readings" in English Literature, so I highly recommend her. Though, I don't think she ever has a continuous speech long enough for your mandate.
