tick, tick.. BOOM! in L.A.

who else is as excited as i am for this? tick.. tick... BOOM! is at the coronet theatre in l.a. this summer. it's a total must for anyone who loved Rent, as it was also written by Jonathan Larson. it's his story before he wrote Rent, working as a waiter and wondering if he'd ever be a success. as we all know, he was, but he didn't know that yet. so it's basically him as a struggling artist n NYC. everyone should check out the main website: ticktickboomthemusical.net and also get tickets if you're in the l.a. area: ticktickboomthemusical.net

Since I live in Atlanta, I'm more envious than excited. Smile And the website is

tick,tick...BOOM! as we know it actually appeared years after RENT in 2001. Prior to that it was a one man show. It's now a three actor show with some changes. I would like to see the one man version in order to compare the two.

I hope the show in LA goes as well as the one I saw here.

Don't think it was ever made into a movie so no soundtract exists. Although, I'd like to see a film version but I'm not sure if we are experiencing a wave of public interest in seeing musical films. The Producers and RENT both flopped. So be sure to see Mamma Mia!, Sweeney Todd, and Bat Boy when they come out so Hollywood will crank out more.

I loved the show and since it is a standard musical, hearing the dialog will pull all the songs on the cast recording together. But if you go to youtube, you can probably find some clips. They're not of the best quality but still fun to see.

Maybe it wasn't technically considered a SOUNDTRACK but i still have most of the songs (all except 1) on a cd. I love Why? Therapy, green, green dress and boho days. Great songs. I'm also looking for the sheet music for it if i can find it anywhere. doubt it, but its possible.

There's no maybe. It's definitely not a soundtrack. It's a cast recording.

Political correctness has nothing to do with it.

Boho Days was dropped from the show. It was an extra on the CD sung by Larson.

I've hear of this show, but honestly never seemed interested in it. I live in the LA area and the tickets are pretty cheap for front row, but I wonder who I would go with. What's the show about, yea I get it's about Jonathan's life, but can anyone give me more detail. UC Davis is also doing this show next year, my freahman, what are the parts?

If it is a professional production, oh yes, run, don't walk to see it! It is typically done in small theaters and consists of three actors. It's a one act show and is basically about Jonathan about to turn 30 years old. He has sort of an early mid-life crisis. He hasn't made it as a musical theater writer so he tries to decide if he wants to continue pursuing his dream or join his friend in advertising. It's tempting for Jonathan to join his friend because his friend is making big bucks while Jonathan is still the starving artist. He also is having issues with his girlfriend and other things creep in as well. The show is a slice of Jonathan's life as he approaches his 30th birthday. You'll probably notice some elements of RENT in it but TTB is still unique. It's a standard musical with dialog punctuated by song rather than RENT's sing-through.

I had a much easier time understanding TTB than RENT. Another good show to look for is Bat Boy.

I should add that I don't know why this thread started here because I believe TTB was on neither Broadway nor West End.

Well. I have boho days on the cd, so i must be missing another song. But thanx for the Link! i could have gotten it for $20.54, but this is so much cheaper. thanx!

I saw the show a few weeks ago at the Coronet. It is excellent. I didn't like a few of the songs, but the amazing cast pulled them off so well. For a cast of three, with the main guy onstage almost the whole time, there is so much energy. And all of you Sondheim fans will love the homage to Sunday in the Park with George in the song "Sunday". Go see this show!
