Threepenny Opera QuestionI recently came across the video of Alan and Cyndi singing Pimp's Ballad on youtube and I think I'm in love.
That production didn't record a cast recording, right? Which recording is the best?

There is no recording of that production, I don't think.
Damn.
I can't help with your last question, but I'd like to know opinions as well, so thanks for asking...

Salome knows...I can't recall of the top of my head...I'm thinking that she always says the 1974 recording...but I don't think it even exists as a CD...lol...she said she only had it on an actuall record...

Donmar isnt bad.it has some odd lyrics here ant here and the Macheath is terrible.
the finest version hands down is the 1978 New york Shakespeare fest production starring Raul Julia and ellen Green.
its unrivaled.

I like the Macheath because of his coarseness- it sort of shows up his bourgeouise pretensions as the put-on they are.
And I've never heard the Julia and Greene recording.

macheath at domoar warehouse is too common and cockney. he doesnt exude that charm and elegance of a criminal who made good.
Julia was,is and always will be the perfect macheath.
