Thoughts from a recent viewing...

With Brenda on vacation, I knew it'd be a good time for me to re-visit the show.

John Schneider made for a fine Billy. He seemed to be living in the moment with each scene, and there's really no doubt the man has charisma. A refreshing change from the last "duke of hazzard" that I saw, Tom Wopat.

Bianca was probably the most over-the-top I've ever seen her, which makes it the worst I've ever seen her. Chicago's book is so good, why overplay it? Granted, we've all seen our share of Roxies be foolish with their antics, but this was out of control and just left a sour taste. My partner sitting next to me said, "that performance was atrocious...how can anyone let this happen?" 'nuf said.

Terra as Velma; well, I've praised her before and I'll do it again. She commanded the stage, and executed the choreography (in a way that Bianca did not) with control and nuanced technique.

Loved Roz's new wig. Ron Orbach was a contrived bore as Amos. New Cell Blocks since I last saw the show: Melissa Rae Mahon is now Mona, Kate Dunne is Hunyak (weak weak weak), and Nicole Bridgewater is now Annie.

That's a shame about Bianca. Sad

But the revival doesn't really pride itself on being period. Almost everything/everyone is modern and glam.

I realize that it's not a literal representation of the 1920's. I just prefer a "harder edge" to Mama. There's nothing wrong with the wig really, it's just a matter of personal preference.

you know, i wouldnt mind seeing them mix it up for a different version of the show.

do the costumes a little more 1920s, but keep the choreography Fosse-style, and the music as is.

i do love the show the way it is, tho.
