What's the point of these games? Is it do decide which character is least liked? Or is it to decide which character the show could most easily do without?

It's just as much a waste of time as Show vs Show and any other meme-type post, but people like them just the same. And besides- if you don't wanna do it, just don't post on it. It'll eventually disappear down the board.

The Neverending Musical Thread gives us the opportunity to discuss the pros and cons of literally every musical ever made. The character elimination games just have people choose for characters that really may not be the most important or driving force behind the show (see the Les Miserables game that ended with a poll). I'm not aware of any of them that were completely finished except the rent game perhaps.

I don't see that's it's terrible. If you don't like the games, don't post in the thread and thusly you won't be supporting the games. That's how they'll disappear, by lacking support and being pushed off the board, not by attacking the intelligence of the people who may enjoy them. If they do, then they do and they'll stick around. What harm are they doing, really?
