Theatre themed Tattoos

Just wondering who here has a theatre based tattoo and if so what is it and if possible post a pic?
I'm currently considering having one done so just interested to see other peoples generally.
Elphaba22

I've been considering getting one as well, anyone with advice/guidance/pictures?
PappyCat

A lot of people get the Tragedy Comedy masks... It's a wee bit overdone, but I think it's very tasteful and if I were to get one, I'd probably go that road.

However I, as a performer, wouldn't get a tattoo. My roommate had to cover hers up for the most recent show she was in and Tattoo coverup is a pain in the ass and she had to reapply it all the time. Too much of a hassle.
Salome

its very easy to cover a tattoo with makeup..

heres mine...

Janet? Smile
Salome

yep!

press pic for rocky horror lol
PappyCat

See, if I were the publicity person for your show, I would have made you cover up the tattoo.
Salome

not for that scene. i'm in the red outfit for the floor show i wiped off my make up covering the tattoo for that scene thats after janet has succmbed to the side of frank-n furter.
PappyCat

By getting a random tattoo? I don't know if that's logical with the time frame. And why are you still looking scared if it's after you've succumbed?
Salome

stop being an as shole pappy.

tattoos were very common in the 70s.

I could easily say..whay did they have a fat girl as fred in Mattress.
PappyCat

I'm sorry if I offended you with my comments, I was just curious, Publicity is one of the aspects of theatre I'm interested in. I know you do professional theatre and I was just wondering why they'd overlook that.

I didn't say "Why would they cast someone with a Tattoo?" I just was expressing that I think they should have covered up your tattoo. It would be like you saying "Why didn't they pull your hair up for such and such scene.."

Your weight jab was uncalled for and childish, and not effective, by the way. Why wouldn't Fred be fat? She is supposed to be unprincessy, un-ingenue, etc.

EDIT: Anyway, after rereading my posts they did seem a little a-holeish. It wasn't my intent, so I'm genuinely sorry if you felt attacked.

But your acting like an angel? Read my post (if you haven't already) in the thin=attractive thread (whatever it's called).

I have a sorta related theatre tattoo. Its a joker on my left forearm. But that is because the joker was like, entertainment, and I enjoy entertaining people in whatever activity I am performing. I love my tat. I would never get the tragedy comedy faces though, I can't stand them. They have lost any meaning that they previously had because they are so overused and overdone, and they weren't that great to start.

Salome: Are they the comedy and tragedy masks, can't quite make it out.

I like the comedy and tragedy masks depending how they are done, there are few styles of them that are perhaps overdone, but some can look very nice as Salome's seem to from what I can make out.

I'm not a performer any more but if I got one done I'd simply have it somewhere less liekly to be seen such as the lower back or such so that I can show it off if I want but cover it up with clothes or make-up remover for certain ocassions.

If I were to get a tattoo, it would be of an F clef and an upside down G clef making a heart. Smile
Catherine

^, OK I have fallen in love with that idea.

I loved that idea, but I didn't like how you had to flip the treble clef upside down to make it work. Here's a picture of my tattoo (I'm not a performer, so it didn't really matter). I like how it still has a heart shape, but it's less obvious than having one of them upside down.

This picture was taken not too long after I got it done, so it's still shiny with the lotion stuff I was putting on it.. so it kind of looks like henna.

My friend has that with a treble clef and a rose.

This is my thinking. I stick to henna.
EponineMNFF

I love henna! It's perfect for fulfilling all of the urges I've ever had to get a tattoo.

I really wanted to get something Harry Potter related, and just ended up getting a henna of the Dark Mark. That was SO awesome, even though I ended up having to loofa it off because like two weeks before a show, I was worried it wouldn't come off fast enough. That was a bit of an overreaction, but still.

I change my mind too much for anything permanent.

Sexy!

Dear Musicals.Net Posters,

If I ever got a musical theatre- themed tattoo, I'd want for it to be located in a sexy place (Ie: "I want The Phantom"/ inner thigh).

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I once had a friend who had the POTO mask on her arm. I thought it was sorta cool, considering it was POTO... Razz

No one really needs ask what sort of logo I'd tattoo myself with (if I didn't think tattoos were tacky... no offense meant to anyone who has 'em; my opinion doesn't really matter to you, I hope...)

If I was a man who liked tattoos... it'd be 24601 to the chest.

Even though in the musical the chest tattoo is really more of a bar.
Salome

you can see mine a bit better here....

Mistress

My sister has a similar tatoo on her back...it's a bit bigger and in just a simple outline in blue ink, I think. She also has a a music note tattooed on her toe as well as her favourite Bon Jovi line in music notes tatooed right above it.
Salome

notice how i matched my bikini to my tattoo? lol[/i]
Annie

^^ That suit is fabulous, as is the tattoo. I'm not much of a tattoo girl, but I really do like that one!

In the UK performers and aspiring performers are discouraged from getting tattooes (also at places like RADA etc), as it's a major hassle for the make up teams. Yes, they can be covered up. BUT - it's an extra added hassle people usually don't want to deal with. Why hire someone with a tattoo when there are others equally as capable at doing the job without one? And I have known several people for final West End recalls having had to show any tattoes and if they were too prominent and the casting people felt they were obstructing to the show/character - those actors lost out on the job. I realise that for modern shows tattoos are less of an issues but there is still a lot of period casting going on in the UK, plays and MT where it matters and even for musicals like Spamalot, which a girl I know recently auditioned for here - care about it. She is a dancer, so would have to dance in costumes that show her stomach for Spamalot - and the casting team said NO tattoos.

I think some tattos can look very nice but I personally wouldn't get one, too risky for my career. Things may well be different in the US...
Salome

ive never heard of it being an issue here. i mean its never been a problem for me. and look at all the broadway strs who hae them, melissa erricolaura benanti,Jane Krakowski etc...
jesuiscommejesuis

Thats cute, tez! I want mine like this, though:

Except in the jazz font rather than the normal one.
Kiwi

I know someone who wants that same thing as a tattoo, and talks about it constantly.
