The Word OF Your Body

What exactly does this song mean in this section:

O, I知 gonna be wounded
O, I知 gonna be your wound
O, I知 gonna bruise you
O, you池e gonna be my bruise

Thanks

What exactly do any of the spring awakening lyrics mean? is a better question.

I interpret it as... Don't think that this will be easy. You might get hurt or I may hurt you.

Hahaha so true. When I saw the show, I found the random/confusing lyrics VERY distracting.

I always thought it was about leaving your mark one someone. Or having someone leave their mark on you.

But then again, I'm a Spring Awakening n00b.

The Word of Your Body...is all the sexual/physical changes that they're going through....I think the wounded/bruise part is like they are leaving their mark on eachother..because they're having sex for the first time.

I apologize to any Spring Awakening fans, but those are some of the crappiest lyrics I've ever heard...

No kidding. The energy that the show has is great, but it's very, very poorly written.

In the show's defense, these are exactly the sort of lyrics that would work well in Nineties acoustic alternative rock, which is very much the lyrical base of the show. Listen to the album "What's UP? Nineties Alternative Radio" and you'll hear Spring Awakening's true inspiration.

As much as I LOOOOOVE this show, I agree that those lyrics are pretty weird, no matter what wise and clever symbolism you tag onto it

Really? I know they may seem a bit ordinary just to look at them on paper, but when I saw the show for the first time and listened to the recording, those lines were some of the most emotionally effective to me. I think if you have truly gone through true love and loss, it is easier to understand (which is odd I will say since the characters are supposed to be 14). Love is not always pretty and the effect someone can have on someone else's life is WOW!

Agreed. These are lyrics that need to just speak to you. Not to be written down or closely scrutinized.
musictheatre00

funny thing is, some people say the lyrics are really crappy, but if I'm not mistaken, it did win the TONYs for best book and best score.

By the way, I think the lyrics mean that love is one of those things in which everyone gets hurt, like "Oh man I want you so much that it's going to tear me apart." It can pretty much be taken as spiritually or physically.

The fact that this show one Best Music & Lyrics over Legally Blonde is a travesty.

....there, I said it!
mastachen

Are people being sarcastic on this thread, or am I missing something?
Anno_Domini

Not at all, I was being 100% sincere in my last post

For as much as I like this show, I have to agree with you there. SA has some pretty rockin' harmonies though. Lyrics.....well that's a different story. They're not as horrible as people make them out to be, but Legally Blonde has clever witty lyrics.

I read a post from a while ago that explored the meaning of the wound lyrics a while ago. If I find it again, I'll bump it for you. Smile

i love spring awakening.

but this song and it's reprise are definitely my least favorite songs in the whole show. i agree with you guys on the bruising lyrics...they're dumb.
Astonishingg

Not at all! The lyrics about bruises/wounds are beautiful. It's such an interesting way to get across what the lyricist is trying to say.
mastachen

What is the lyricist trying to say?

I love the show and I've listened to it a million times, and travelled three thousand miles to see it in NY but I still don't understand over half the songs, so I'm not going to pretend that some lyrics I don't understand are deep and beautiful, or for that matter, good. While you're at it, can you also explain Mirror/Blue Night, Blue Wind, and Song of Purple Summer to me? Because I haven't figured those songs out yet, also.

It was a great feeling to figure out what Bitch Of Living was about. And then I felt a little dirty.

One of the users on this page explained the bruising thing pretty well. http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60698&start=12

The music you hear is amazing, vocally. The accompaniment doesn't even follow it and this really bothered me when I got the vocal selections. If someone just took the vocal notes and then made accompaniment, using the vocals as if from a fakebook, would be awesome.

Some of the lyrics are weird, some of them are quite lovely. I love the lyrics for "The Mirror-Blue Night."
bwaydisaster

I was very confused about the lyrics when I first listened to the musical. So for fun I bought a few of the lyrics into my AP English class and we analyzed them. After hearing everyone's ideas and fitting them together, it all made a lot of sense.
