The Woman in WhiteIt's been a while since I have heard something about this show... Is it still on or is it closed already? Since it was getting bad reviews and stuff... Hmmm...

It closed a few weeks ago.I just don't think it applead to New York audiences that much. The Drowsy Chaperone is now at the Marquis. I sort of wanted to see how the projections worked, but I guess it is too late.

Aww... How long did it run on Broadway then? Has it closed in the West End as well?

Yes it closed on the West End at the begining of this year. AND was replaced at the Palace by Whistle Down the Wind on a limited run. Eventually the Palace will become the home of the UK production of Spamalot!

I saw Woman in White on Broadway the weekend it closed. It had some catchy tunes, and the projections were a very interesting idea, however I really disliked the combo of literally screaming/singing. Not pushing, not at all in that way. Like scream as if a mouse is going to attack you. I know it was supposed to be in character of the thriller musical, but some of the voices sounded like they were hurting and incredibly strained from all of the screaming. I felt bad especially for Maria. I know she was ill, but her voice sounded so weak after all of the performances. I'm glad for the actors' sake that it closed.

the only time i wanted ot see this show was when Simon Callow took over the lead from Michael Crawford. Callow can do anything.

I saw it twice in London, once with Michael Crawford and once with Michael Ball (both were great). I wa sorry to hear that it closed in London and Broadway. They said that the NY production had lots of medical problems in the cast and that the stars only performed for 1/3 of the shows. I understand there will be a US tour starting up later this year or next. I hope so, I think it is a great show.

Michael Ball took over from Michael Crawford when he left the show. Then it was Anthony Andrews (I think) in the role and then Simon Callow or another chap came next I'm not quite sure now.
I saw Maria and Michael Ball both in their roles in the West End.They were both fab.I'm sorry WIW did get more of a chance on Broadway. It ran for two years or so here in the West End.

I saw it just after it opened on the West end. I actually really enjoyed it, and I love the music. It wasn't one of the best shows, but still good. The music is fantastic, but a lot of the lyrics are quite poor.

Hello
I saw it on its first night. I thought it was an Ok show. Above the average, but it wasn't great or breathtaking.
Overall, it got very good reviews in press here in London, but i think most people didn't rate it that much, and at the end word of mouth was stronger.
I couldn't fault the cast. I really enjoyed their performances and voices, but as someone said the lyrics were not that strong, and there was only one REALLY memorable song. Ensemble numbers were with all due respect lamentable(comparing to Les Miserables they were *beep*). The projection was Ok. Actually pretty cool.
I wasn't disappointed by it, but i didn't recommend it to anyone without some words of warning.

Anthony Andrews was amazing! (See The Scarlet Pimpernel Movie with him and Jane Seymour)

I heard it was awful... And Lloyd Webber's new musicals do not appeal to me anymore...everything after Sunset is crap.

I have to say that I saw Woman In White the saturday after it opened and was thoroughly bored. It was such a disapointment! I actually fell asleep at one point and thats something I've never done in over 20 years of seeing hundreds of shows.

I actually liked it
Some of the music like " I believe my heart" and " Trying not to notice it" was charming.
I was also surprised at the set design as well, simple and cleverly done...but works very well in setting the mood and scene. Something I haven't seen before.

Oh rats... | Salome wrote: | | The only time I wanted to see this show was when Simon Callow took over the lead from Michael Crawford. Callow can do anything. |
I think even the great Callow may have struggled with one of the least funny comedy lyrics in musical theatre. When I first heard the recording, I was dumbfounded as to why people were laughing. And then I found out about Fosco's little pets.
