The WolfSo, I've heard that the wolf is now in some productions is a pack of wolves. Is this true? If it is, how is it done?

In the original production, the actor playing Cinderella's prince doubled as the wolf. In the 2002 revival and subsequent productions, a second wolf was added so that both princes double as both wolves.

Original Fairy TalesPart of the charm and genius of Into the Woods, is that we get the original fairy tales in the first act, with the addition of the Baker's story to thread them together. I have NEVER heard a telling of Little Red Riding Hood that has more than one wolf. I have never seen a multiple wolf version of ITW, and I am glad of that. I don't think this is a good idea.

to clarify..the 2nd wolf is also played by the actor who plays rapunzel's prince. and in the revival that wolf goes after the 3 little pigs.

I just saw a local production of ITW. They had two wolves (who I assumer were brothers). The wolves sort of competed to see who could charm Little Red throughout "Hello Little Girl". At the end of the song, one wolf chased Little Red. The other, a pig. I rather like the two-wolf thing because wolves do travel in packs.

i have yet to see a production with a pack as you say.
Yet i've seen a few where they have a group of wolves, who had masks with glowing eyes and in the opening scene they brought in the books and then took them out, and they stayed on stage most of that scene and it looked very very neat.

in the show im in right now, the wolf pack is a group of backup singers during Hello Little Girl.. it's a good way to add some ensemble parts

That's really odd to me. it seems like it would hide and seriously take away the overtones and context with in the character. Quite upsetting actully.

in my production now we have two casts, so the wolf from the other casts and then guys who aren't living woods but are the stewards are backup wolves/ the wolf pack in Hello Little Girl. they just sing/put more emphasis on some of the things he says. i think it is quite clever. it works really good to because it's a way to incorporate more ensemble

if you say so. i've never seen it done that way so i don't plan to make a final judgement until i do. The way you've put it sounds like it would be kinda cool. And i can see it working.

and i totally forgot to mention that it makes the howl at the end of the song 20 times cooler because there are like 10 more guys doing it.
