http://www.playhouseharlow.com/wizardofoz/production%20photos/index.htm The set was quite complex with a lot of trucks and a lot of flying pieces - we had a deck crew of nine (although we probably would have been OK with less) and two flymen. We were lucky in that we had 3 already existing pantomime trees with moveable eyes and mouth; the two flymen got to throw apples from the flyfloor! We also had Flying by Foy come in to do the people-flying for us. |

Is that the part where Dorothy goes into her house during the Tornadoe and then she hits her head? |
||||
| wicked_boy |
All the Oz scenes were based on circles. Kansas had a simple white backdrop gauze with picket fence etc. For the twister, we had a projection on the front tabs. Erm, anything else you wanna know, PM me. |

^ omg those are amazing!!! What was your budget?!
Our set's weren't very good, so I won't even bother posting pics. But we did have some very cool (and easy) tree costumes. The girls wore brown unitards, with this really sparkly-shear brown fabric draped around them to look like halter-dresses. Then they all had green afro-wigs with apples inside them and they had really red rosy cheeks. The overall effect was really cute- I called the Areitha Franklin trees. Sadly, I don't think I have any good pics. |

^ It was a profesional show, so it was a HUGE budget, as it ran over Xmas for like 3 months.
you're afro wig apple trees sound really cool. Can you post some pics, please? |
||||

As of now I don't have any pics =( however I'm scouring my friends facebooks to try to find one.
| wicked_boy |
^ I've done that to find production pictures at times. I've spent the entire day going through myspaces, facebooks, freewebs, thousands of newspaper sites and the thousands of pages google has!

I totally second that! |
||||
| The Drama Queen |
Definitely nothing compared to wicked_boys, but they were inexpensive and the audience liked them. |

That's BRILLIANT!

Yeah, the house truck was built on a big see-saw so that it would rock from side to side - there were two crew members behind it tilting it and shoving it backwards and forwards as well. Worked like a charm, and the two crew guys put on some muscle over the run as well! |

Thanks! OMG! Those afro's are a good way to show the leaves! It's awesome. That's a clever way for the house, kiwitechgirl. |

^ The lighting looks really cool. I'm presuming the show was based more on lighting than on set?
This is a show I saw when I was little:
This was for scene 1, the whole "I wont let her hurt you" thing. Then see the flat with the house on? It was removed to show the flat on the third picture of the house.
The Twister, lots of dancers dancing while the flats were moved about.
Munchkinland. All except the house flat was taken away. The house one was taken away later, the cloth things were let down which munchkin hid behind. These changed colour throughout the Oz scenes. See the door / flat thing between the orange and yellow cloth? That also acted as a door for people to come out of. |

how old were your dorothy's? and was this community theatre or youth groups...
i'm auditioning for the show soon, and i think the pictures look great with costumes and sets and everything, I just wanted to get a better idea of the casting/what to expect age wise. |
||||
| The Drama Queen |
^
I was 14 when I was cast, and 15 when we had the performances. I can see really any age from 10-20 working if the actress is capable. |
||||
| wicked_boy |
In my version, the Dorothy was 23. But she was soooo young looking. During a press article about her, she said she gets asked for ID in her home town, still.
Her head shot. |

^ what part did you play wicked_boy?
| wicked_boy |
You had to ask!!!!
I was in the children's cast. (I'm a kid). Because of child laws, there were 24 of us, split into two teams, (Rubies, me, Emerald's, others). We each had a double in the other team and the kids were Munchkins and people in the Emerald City. Then there was the adults. Adults There were 13 adults. All except the main 4 had like, 20 million roles! The show's page. Just some info about the show. |

Hi! photos are on MdN social club, but here are some more. You can also visit latrobetheatrecompany.org.au if you would like.
Our Crows and Scarecrow. We used a fence from the Kansas farm and had a box thing with another fence filled with corn plants and matresses for the crows and scarecrow to play around in, with a scarecrow stick thing and platform at the back. Our Tinman Scene and Trees. We made dresses out of sparkly brown material and had headdresses made of pipleclearers and a turban thing with apples on hooks for them to chuck at us Oz. We had flats that turned around for different green combinations and had a door on the other side for the guard etc. The Witch's Castle. Basically a platform with a trapdoor for melting, with two towers on either side with steps and a window on one, there were flats blocking off the back of the stage, the opposite side of Oz. Anymore questions, PM me and let me know!! |

I like the spikey things for E. City. And the raggy things at the bottom of the trees.

Here are the pictures from our production in Hammond, LA. It was at the Columbia Theatre.

I'm presuming you did the Muny version? |
||||
| Joshua |
Well, sorta. We did the MUNY, but we added alot of the RSC in there too because our producer knew that the audience would want to hear all of the famous lines from the movie. |
||||
| wicked_boy |
Did you get the rights for both shows? How did you do it?
| Joshua |
Yeah we got the rights to both shows. Our producer, Chuck Effler, also re-orchestrated the score so he mixed both versions' music.
| wicked_boy |
But, why did you get the rights to do the Muny version, but then want the RSC version in it? I don't understand, why not just do the RSC version?
| Joshua |
I have no idea. I was thinking the same thing.
btw, wicked_boy, I just noticed the avatar. It's......interesting. |
||||
| Laura |
yeah, I liked the spikes. They took up heaps of room, though!! I loved the trees, the "raggy things" were supposed to represent roots. I think their costumes were great!! |

Publishers?Who can tell me who published the version of Wizard of Oz that's based on the Judy Garland movie version we all know and love? |
||||
| Robinflamingo |
Tams-Witmark. Here's a link that explains it: http://www.beyondtherainbow2oz.com/stagethewizard.html
| kiwitechgirl |
Re: Publishers?
That's the RSC version - Tams-Witmark are the rights holders for both versions. The MUNY version is much closer to the original book. |
